Classic NIMBY mentality.

F'em.

They've gone beyond NIMBY...they are now BANANAs (Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anything).

BTW South Padre Island is a great place to put these wind farms. Corpus Christi is near there and it is the second windiest city in America next to Chicago. Windsailing was extremely popular when I lived there in the early 90s.

Did you read the post? "Jerome Collins of the Sierra Club said his and other groups support wind energy and hoped to work with enery producers to prevent bird deaths and protect the scenic landscape. "

The mainstream of the environmental movement supports wind power.
Wanting to study the environmental impacts of a relatively new and untested technology is not obstructionist, but prudent.
As for the Altamont pass windmills killing lots of birds, I believe these are mostly old
technology windmills, that turn at a faster speed. More modern windmills turn more slowly, reducing the bird kills.
Nice try at blaming environmentalists for the lack of alternative sources of power, your oil soaked gang has been in power for how many years, yet I haven't seen any push to stop using oil, oh yeah, the answer is fuel from coal. Ha ha ha.

These hippies are so fscking stupid... Wind turbines spin in general very slowly, I don't really see how this would present as a problem for these birds. they need to get their heads out from their asses and look at real world examples of turbines instead of assuming windmills spin at a fast rate like airplanes..

don't *migratory* birds fly a little higher than that over the ocean, though? I'd imagine that land-based turbines would kill a LOT more birds than ones in the middle of the ocean.

I suppose you are a supporter of hydroelectric dams then too.

In terms of power to environmental impact ratio, hydroelectric is pretty good.

Look, I'll be happy when they finally develop fusion, but until then, we have to take what we can get. I'm an environmentalist, but also a realist.

No, almost all the wind turbines produced are designed to shut down once the wind picks up past a certain speed. Usualy 35-50 MPH.

Also, birds are smart enough to avoid obsticles like these and those who hit them will get a darwin award for helping to improve the species.
