also gonna have to say Little Big Planet. game has some of the worst controls i've ever seen in a platformer and the hype behind it was ridiculous. it was supposed to live off of user content but it seemed to have died out pretty quickly.

Echoing LBP. That series is so terrible imo. I recognize that it must be fun to most people, since lots of people love it and it sells well, but I just don't understand the appeal at all.

Another vote for LBP and LBP2 from me. How the hell do these games score so high?

I think it's b/c the sidescrolling platformer is rare these days, and LBP is pretty decent. It has really good level desgin, and a wealth of user created online content. I enjoy playing it with my kids and with out them here and there.

I hear that Rayman Origins is supposed to be really good as well. I will probably check that out when it's cheaper.

See I grew up when durring a time where there was nothing but 2d side scrolling platformers, and loved them. Sonic, Bubsy, Mario, etc. I still prefer them over 3d platformers to this day.

Oh I love sidescrollers; I bust out DKC from time to time still. I just don't like the LBP's. The ~10 levels I played over both games were boring to me.

And when I buy a game, it HAS to stand alone. I'm paying $60 for YOUR game, devs. Not $60 for half a damn game and the idea that SOME users MIGHT create something that I like. User generated content does not, and will not appeal to me.

Only one coming to mind in recent times for me was God of War.

When GoW3 came out last year I nearly bought it but everyone that played the earlier ones and loved it so much insisted it's a must to play 1 & 2 before playing 3.

PS3 released the Collection with 1 & 2 and for $20 figured what the hell.

Was so damn boring. Mash buttons over and over and over non-stop.

One of the rare times I just stop playing a game and have zero interest in ever picking it back up to complete it.

Half Life 2.

Trolling I assume?

That is seriously a great game/franchise.

Not often I play a game through again from start to finish when there's so many other games always coming out.

This is one of those rare cases that I have and loved replaying it through just as much the 2nd time.

Actually, I have to concur with the person who said Half Life 2. After the impressive intro that setup the atmosphere and world nicely, I found it staggeringly average to play.

If anyone found Ravenholm boring to play, we need to have you checked. That was a seriously awesome level, I rank it pretty high up there in terms of levels like the D-Day raid from CoD, AC130 / Ghillie in the Mist from CoD4, etc.

What's annoying is that you climb through sewers like a serial killer in that game. There aren't any grand vistas like you would see in COD or Halo, but rather lots of sewer grates and rats and shit. Lots of grime and yucky stuff. I mean, why have a shiny pc only to show icky environments?

Other than that though, I liked the game quite a bit and found it accurately rated. The technology at the time was revolutionary. No other game had done facial animations like this.

A funny trend Im noticing...the majority of the games people are calling out are platform exclusives.

Perhaps the exclusivity is shutting out some gamers to a game, and thus they might not play it when it's at it's full glory on initial release, and never really form that bond. Likewise, not having an "alliegance" to any one platform might not give you the same feeling fuzzy about an exclusive.

And then there's fanboys, of course.

LBP is hipster in a lot of way. It's intentionally kiddy which is kinda charming I guess, but not quite. Also, it looks floaty and there's hardly any reason to care except to get to the end of the level.

Oblivion/Fallout 3/New Vegas

Pretty much only how "open" they are is what keeps me coming back. Graphics suck, storylines suck, voice acting is atrocious (save for one or two characters in the whole game), every dungeon lay-out in each game is all the same and reuse the same crappy textures everywhere, being able to quickly get to the ridiculously low level cap and easily kill everything, plus of course how buggy everything is when released. Not horrible games but no way would I ever say these are great games.

That was probably my first and one of my few favorite PS3 games, a gem.

Agreed. Sony needs to stay away from making crappy COD/Halo wannabes like Resistance and KZ, and invest in making more gems.

The floaty physic mechanics, is what separates LBP from other Side scrollers. The game gets increasingly difficult as you try to master those controls as well.

Maybe I just didn't see what everyone else saw, but it was very generic and repetitive to me.

Fallout 3 I could tell from a few videos that I wouldn't much care for the game. Games that tout freedom and choice seem to instead offer being stuck not knowing how to advance the story. I mean, games are like a roller coaster ride in a lot of ways, and I think it's preferable that they be highly scripted.

But in the case of fallout 3 I think people were reacting to the graphics engine and the franchise. It seems like every major game that's on the unreal engine and has lots of polish will get an 8.0, gam play not really mattering.

I can say that I found batman arkham asylum not so interesting. maybe I"m jaded after having my mind blown by prince of persia sands of time.

Fallout is not on the unreal engine. It doesn't even look that good.

It might not be for everyone, but it was great at what it attempted to do. It's funny to hear someone complain that a game isn't enough like call of duty. It seems like everyone thinks the opposite.

I like games that don't tell me where to go; it makes them more realistic imo. Though pretty much all of Bethesda's games tell you where to go, you just don't have to listen.

My nominee off the top of my head is the beloved Uncharted 2.

It just seemed boring and tedious, made up of 'close call flashy action scenes'.

WTF?

Wow, Uncharted 2 is possibly the best game this generation, and you liked LBP D:.

I like the illusion of choice, sure, but I also like it so that the clues are helpful. Nothing sucks more than getting stuck on a level, killing all the enemies, and still not being sure how to go forward. Especially bad is if the problem is a bug in the game code.
