Cuba.. because michael moore said they had the best healthcare system.
Hugo Chávezs cancer puts 2012 Venezuela elections in doubt
Can someone explain to me why so many Americans have such a hard on for hating the man? I realize he's not shy about not liking us, and that his socialist standing is anathema to American conservatives, but really what gives?
Has he tried to overthrow our government or something?
Sorry, I just have a hatred for totalitarian governments and pseudo-dictators.
Especially ones that cause such harm to the people of their country.
I hope he dies in a very long and very painful death.
I forgot about the earthquake machine. He's a looney tune.
Don't we have pseudo-dictators though? Many policies are left untouched, regardless of which of the two parties are in power. The hate of him is just puppet of propaganda idiotism. Would you be able to debate with him? Or would you just froth out the mouth with hateful belligerent insults?
Same thing with Ahmadinejad.
My favorite was the "it smells of sulfur" speech (referring to Bush).
I rate him about equal to Bush or Obama though. Just another politician, only slightly more entertaining, in an autistic way. Kind of endearing.
Craig and Steeplerot will be holding a therapy session for each other later today.
According to a Venezuelan immigrant that I indirectly know, the guy is quite a polarizing figure back in Venezuela. The Venezuelans of European descent (which constitute most of the middle / upper class) hate him, bash him in the media (back when they were able to do so) and have tried to overthrow him. The indigenous population (slight majority / most of the lower classes) love him for his socialist / handout policies.
Naturally, we can identify with the Venezuelan opposition rather than Chavez's base, which seem bent on a nationalization spree and are actively working towards real socialism and making Chavez a perpetual dictator (somewhat legally). It is also in our national interest for Venezuela to allow foreign investment (which the opposition would encourage) due to their natural resources.
He is also the figurehead of a greater anti-west, pro-socialist movement in South America and is actively supporting terrorist activities against our ally Columbia.
Chavez, himself, is trying to become the 21st century Castro. IMO, he can safely be ignored, the less we assert ourselves down there, the less ammunition he has to use against us. Plus, he makes for some good lulz when he visits the UN or speaks of our Earthquake Weapon that we used to destroy Haiti (to justify "invading" them).
I have no love for Chavez, but I do not wish cancer on anyone.
It would have been best for republicans (notice it is not capitalized) to stab him to death on their senate floor the day he used his underhanded dealings to obtain the power to rule by decree or when he reveled his true intentions to have those powers for life.
I was interested to read on Wikipedia that Hugo Chavex has a twitter account with more than a million followers. Apparently there are people who like him and want to hear what he has to say. I guess the USA perspective that anyone who tries to shift the balance of power away from an elite minority toward the majority is necessarily evil isn't a view that is universally held.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer man.
BTW, for those wondering "why the hate" This guy is a dictator plain and simple. I know someone personally who's father was assassinated because he just so happened to have a different political opinion than Chavez (before he was elected).
You are an idiot.Don't we have pseudo-dictators though? Many policies are left untouched, regardless of which of the two parties are in power.
But, but he's just trying to bring the power back to the common people from the rich capitalist borgeois! Don't you know?!
I mean, the guy has a million twitter followers!
