Wonder if this means Big Oil is going to be able to buy Venezuela's next leader?

There is a middle ground between being owned by oil companies and nationalizing the sector. Venezuelan production is way down and they face an enormous (very costly) backlog of maintenance caused by the nationalizations. The massive explosion that crippled the huge Amuay refinery and killed 50 people is suspected to have been caused by deferred maintenance.

Obviously Chavez nor PDVSA has been really up to the task of managing such a large energy infrastructure.

..........No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee.

Under his socialist rule, inflation had soared, and the Venezuelan murder rate had reach one of the highest in the world.[387]
^_^

I'm seeing parallels with America this decade. Sure he may have lead the charge in his country, but people world over really dig easy money policies. I'm willing to bet that we're going to match them.

You say inflation, I say stimulus / bailout. Obama says investment.

So now it's going to swing to the opposite end of the spectrum? Probably.

Who knows maybe he was Litvinenko-ized in a more sophisticated way? Probably not but it's always fun to put the conspiracy lens on certain events.

Depends who ends up in power. Ideally someone who will negotiate equitable contracts that give the VZ people fair revenue and a reasonable return for the investment to the oil companies.

It's obvious that you've never traveled to Venezuela. The upper & middle class people wanted a democracy however, it was stolen from them by a dictator named Hugo Chavez. He won so called "democratic" elections via voter intimidation and fraud.

Its obvious that you're making up excuses for the warmongers in Washington. Just because Venezuelans are not happy with their government, doesn't mean they're willing to let foreigners come in by force and establish their own puppet state.

Where in my statement did I say they should let foreigners come in and establish their government. I said that the upper and middle class would rather elect a president than have dictator that rigs elections in his favor.

He was democraticaly elected , thoses who say otherwise are lying
and would be hard pressed if asked to provide the slightest evidence...

In 1996 , two years before he took office 70% of the venezuela people
did live below poverty line , there was less than 65000 teachers for
a nation of 20 millions , a number increased to 350 000 currently...

He was surely one of the most deffamated leader and it s no chance
that he was despised by fascists and capitalist regimes , the ones
that were enslaving Venezuela before he rightly nazionalized the
oil sector.
