Okay, so I'm looking over the weekly OGR statistics on the teamanandtech.com proxy and I see that this fellow with the email syzyguy@yahoo.com is climbing rather quickly. I become interested to see who he is and to check out his stats on D.Net.

So, I type in 'syzy' into the search window, thinking that it's an unusual name, I doubt there will be many hits. (About this time, I'm thinking to myself that those letters are sounding AWFULLY familiar, but can't remember where) Lo and behold, but I come up with ONE PERSON that uses an email that starts with 'syzy' and it's 'SyZ'!! For those of you that don't know, SyZ is the member of /. that's been producing 80-90% of their total output in OGR-24!!

Somebody tell me I'm wrong about this... tell me that one of the heavy hitters from /. isn't using OUR dang pProxy!! :disgust: Aaaaargh! :|

Alll RIGHT!!!

Rock on then, SyZ. Welcome to the TeAm!! I, for one, am definitely glad to have you onboard!! Not to flatter you too much or anything, but I've been following your progress on OGR-24 for quite some time now!

I have to ask though... HOW the heck did you get so many OGR-24 WU's to play with?!?

Again, welcome!

Not a bogus statslink, he just filled in the right things in the wrong field: he was aiming for OGR or Bust !. A common mistake in the Fusetalk forum, for (psycho)logical reasons you should first have to give your discription, then the link IMHO.

I was hopping between the dnet proxy's until I found blocks ... proxy1.red.wa.us has almost no OGR usage, and a full load of 24 blocks .. so I buffered a couple thousand .. when those ran out, I hopped around proxies till I found more. There are no doubt more out there in proxy-land somewhere, I'm just too lazy to find them so I'm mostly 25 now *sigh*

Since I know nothing about OGR, I'll ask a dumb question. Is 24 more fun than 25?

SyZ: Welcome to the TeAm! I see you're already experimenting with the sig, so I guess when I finally hit "reply" the sig issue will be sorted out

Russ: OGR 24 has shorter stubs and thus "faster" stats... besides it's almost done completely so whoever does the most work at this point will probably win that contest...

Welcome SyZ,

I like anyone with a name as weird as mine.

In answer to Russ's question. OGR 24 isn't necessarily more fun but since the number of nodes (work units) are significantly less, and since most people aren't concentrating on it, each unit done pulls a lot more weight in the stats. Also, hurrying up and getting 24 done would allow everyone to concentrate full time on 25.

Faster stats? So, the answer is a definitive YES, they are more fun!

Hehe... only if you run your own pproxy! but then many of us do!

The stubs are shorter and thus takes shorter time to complete.... so you get more stubs flushed/hour and thus I call it "faster" stats ... actually for most processors you'd be lucky to do an OGR25 stub in an hour... in OGR24 it happened frequently to me... it's still not as "fast" as RC5 tho' at least not if you specify small block sizes... with RC5 and block size = 32 I'd say that OGR24 is about as fast as RC5

Oh and nice new sig SyZ

Yeah OGR24 stats happen a lot quicker ... most of my machines can do a block in half an hr or so.. since some blocks contain less work than others, some flush in 5 minutes or less.

OGR25 on the other hand .. the quickest block I flushed took about 4 hrs, and the longest took over 2 days on an athlon/800 ... so stats look kinda funny because on day a bunch of machines may flush, but the next they are all still working on the next packet through the whole day

After ogr25 is done though I'm probably going back to rc5 .. unless the drop the wu size down so a wu is done every couple hrs or so. I havn't seen my rc5 keyrate since ogr started and it aughta be kinda spiffy.

Wow! Since I'm a SETI guy, I'm not real familiar with OGR and the OGR stats system, but does Syz's sig link show him as being ranked 28th overall? That's quite an accomplishment! Welcome to the team!
