And people wonder why I didn't like comcast getting into ownership of universal. Funny how just a week after comcast announced concessions to the FCC to get the purchase approved, Hulu which comcast will own 32%, confirms paid subscriptions.
Yeah, because Hulu had almost certainly not been considering this from day one.
At minimum, I'm pretty sure there were reports of them considering a paid model before the Comcast/NBC-Universal merger happened.
entertainment is not "useful"?
Do you watch movies? Listen to music? Read books?
Question on Hulu and NetFlix, do they have NEW, JUST broadcast stuff too? Or do I have to wait a week before I can see it on demand?
Depends on the shows. Netflix generally doesn't get new shows, whereas Hulu was basically focused on that. Both have evolved some, but Netflix you generally won't get access to new shows very soon, and with Hulu you will (but you won't necessarily get access to anything but certain episodes). You tend to have a delay between the airing and when it shows up on Hulu so there is a delay, and it sounds like content providers are scared that Netflix could basically put them in a situation like Apple did, and so are intent on forcing delays on content there as well.
In fact, availability seems like it will be the new tier for entertainment, where the sooner it is to when it first comes out, the more you're probably going to pay to view it. Movie studios are supposedly considering releasing movies that are in theaters in homes as soon as a month after they open.
$10 isn't bad at all. If you have both Netflix and Hulu you could still get a ton of content for less than $20 per month.
