Really the big deal isn't so much that they think he has committed the crime but that they've organized together to publicly announce it. They have done so because our system of government is failing.
Color me nuts, but I see a statement that both intends and assures me that it won't fail. I see this as a really big deal, an real sign the country has had enough.

If it weren't that it's hurting the US, this would be a fascinating situation... a President who's really only a free man because of his office. He's basically living on borrowed time, and his success in 2020 determines how soon he goes to prison.

And what's funny/sad is that Trump clearly didn't stop to think that running for and becoming President would put his longstanding criminal behavior under the microscope, that it would increase the chances of facing prison time. Then again, he has always assumed he could get away with whatever he wants to do, so that's not completely surprising.

Jesus Christ. There is no amount of wars that Trump wont start in an attempt to save his own skin, fuck old as he may be. Your absolutely best bet is he deep throats another big mac .. and then another .. and then another.
Shit McDonalds may end up saving your country.

Well I guess these hundreds of Former DOJ Prosecuters don't get a say with the exception of their vote on election day.

Curious, did you evaluate what they had to say or just jump to you really didn’t give a shit?

That have a right to voice their opinions on legal matters and have done so. Good job 1st amendment! Given their expertise in the field I would hope their opinion would at last cause some thinking to occur beyond your knee jerk reaction.

Agreed. Prosecuting Trump in NYS would confer an embarrassment of political riches. They're just going to have to find some felonies that we're not already aware of. All of what's come out so far appears to be a matter of exclusive federal jurisdiction.

So far as a hypothetical democratic POTUS prosecuting him, I think you're right their too, when it comes to the longer term health of our democracy. But I would expect such a POTUS to be thinking about what the immediate political impact would be. They'll probably rationalize not prosecuting him by concluding that the policy issues they were elected on are more important.

Here is what I would do if I was POTUS after 2020. I would say, during the campaign, that all prosecutorial decisions will be the sole discretion of my appointed AG, that I would never interfere with the AG's discretion or even speak with the AG about individual cases at all. Then, if asked while POTUS about Trump or anyone else, I would refer the press to DoJ. Not only would that stance distance the POTUS from any decision to prosecute or not, but after Trump, it's exactly what the country needs, an independent DoJ.

Hmm, sounds like a job for a Special Counsel, one explicitly given full power to charge the individual with. And if the Rubs don't like it, they can take it up with the Supreme Court where it then becomes enshrined that either the President is or isn't chargeable for crimes committed while serving as President.

To add insult to injury, seek financial damages for the costs of it all. This way you can extra stick it to the conservatives.

Haven't you heard? Knowledge of anything is useless these days...the least qualified are the most qualified cause reasons.

I would be interested in what your thoughts are when so many subject matter experts from both political parties across decades have come to the conclusion that the current president abused his powers to commit multiple felonies while in office, ones that anyone else would be headed to prison for.

I"ve never seen a reaction bar so red. Congrats! Someday you should ask this liberal circle jerk known as P and N how many times they have gotten themselves all worked up and ended up looking like fools.

The thing is that with Trump and his excesses "looking like fools" is far less serious than Mnuchin and the "DOJ's" position on the justification for not releasing tax returns. I use quotes for the DOJ to mean Barr. People can overstate but it's impossible to overstate the seriousness of the outright delusional excuses of your favorites in power.

I see that you believe your ignorance is as valid as their expertise.

It is frankly unbelievable how diseased the minds of these people have become. They’ve just been informed that the president would be indicted on multiple felony counts of it were one of us and not only do they not appear to care if he’s in prison or not, they don’t even care if he continues to wield the power he abused to commit the felonies in the first place.

Everything is partisan to them now. If law enforcement says their team committed a crime it’s because law enforcement is partisan against them. The president calls for his political opponents to be prosecuted? Well that’s because they’re guilty.

The country won’t survive long this way. If conservatives don’t wake up from this fever dream soon we are in deep shit because what do you do when one of the two political parties, the one the system is biased in favor of giving power, has gone insane?

That would be every thread mentioning Russian collusion.

I hate feeling like an alarmist, but I agree. This absolutely ludicrous level of willful corruption and team based absolution is not sustainable.

It's not failing. It's being failed by the GOP.

Are you still attempting to pretend there was no collusion between Trump's campaign and the Russians? I mean it's literally there in black and white. It can't be argued by any sane individual.

What Mueller found was that outside of Trump's campaign chairman and several other Trump campaign officials no one else met the standard for a chargeable criminal conspiracy, but that's very, very different than collusion. After all, Mueller said he didn't charge Trump Jr. with because he thought he was too stupid to know what he was doing was a crime, not that he wasn't colluding with the Russians.

So outside of the collusion, no collusion, too dumb to collude even though they tried really hard to.

Yeah, outside of all the times where the Trump campaign invited Russian collusion, said it welcomed Russian collusion, times it sat down and met with Russians to collude with them, and all the people who lied to the FBI and/or destroyed documents to inhibit investigating collusion further there was totally no Russian collusion.

This is your brain on conservative media.

And now you understand why I started lobbying for Democrats to just get the fuck out of the way after the 2016 election. Too many Americans want a GOP dictatorship and will shit on everything else to achieve it. On top of that, not a single one of them even understands what policies they actually want. They need conservative media to tell them what to believe. On top of that, they believe they are the smart ones and everyone else is duped by the liberal media. In 2016, America went full stage 4 cancer and the 2018 chemo isn't going to do anything to fix it. We are fucked.

they've long been gaslighted into believing that "liberal" = the enemy. No amount of evidence or rational debate can influence a core belief. On top of this, the tools of logic have been removed from their minds, because they further believe that education = the enemy. Science = the enemy. Literacy = the enemy. The mere notion of challenging a core belief = the enemy. This is why Goldwater sternly warned against courting Evangelical morons as the base of the party. They have co-opted brainless belief systems as the fundamental driver of their thought processes.

There really is no coming back from that. I think, horribly, the only solution is for many of the derpstaters to 2nd Amendment solution themselves. You can't fix stupid, as they like to say.

No, I'll never understand that as it makes no sense.
