Check this out...

You sign up for a membership to this site. Then schedule a hunt. You control a rifle with your mouse. You see through a camera attached to a scope or a camera with cross hairs..

If you see an animal you can move the crosshairs over him and click your mouse button and kill the animal. You pay a bit extra and the meat is processed and sent to you.

I'm into hunting at all really but I thought this was cool. I would have never imagined this would be done.

Check it out. They have a video of target shooting you can watch.

Huntin

Editied a spelling error.

Sickening...what is the benefit?

Hunting is warranted as a way to provide food for yourself and your family, and at least requires the guts to pull the trigger, pick up the carcass and get the meat.

This is simply gross and unhuman.

It would be good for people who cannot physically go out and hunt etc.

Old or impaired in some way....

There is no arguement here, it is not hunting, therefore someone who cannot go hunting is still unable to go hunting when using this service. Hunting is the PURSUIT of game with the intention of killing and eating them, this service is the ability to slaughter animals electronically.
If someone who is physically unable to hunt sees this as a viable solution, then they are not interested in hunting, but the pleasure of having power over a helpless creature and a shortlived sense of strength in ending its life with the click of a mouse.

If you want to call this shooting and hunting, then I can claim to be a supertstar pitcher because I can turn a JUGS machine up to maximum RPMs and drop a baseballball in.

Who invited the hippy?

Explain how I am a hippy for using common sense and being a moral sound human being?
Did I say ban hunting, guns, and hug trees?
It is rediculous to claim this as sport, hunting, or the pursuit of game. People hunt by going out in the fresh air, looking their prey in the eye, and taking it down (later eating it etc..) this is a natural, instinctual human activity. Digitally terminating animals is not.

'Deer Hunter' and it's sequels, sure sell like hotcakes at Wal-Mart though. "Digital Animal Terminator" sounds so much cooler as a title, I think you should e-mail them and suggest it.

Btw, I wonder how "internet-based hunting" would be treated by various in-state and inter-state firearms laws. Can a minor use this service? What would happen if one did?

Edit: Better yet, how long before copycat services start to pop up, like in places like urban NYC and Chicago? Those cheesy flash game ad banners, "Shoot the animal", "Shoot the Perp", etc., just took on a whole new meaning... what if they were real?!?! Crazy.

It sure is cool though!

I think they should expand this service and set up some guns at the neverland ranch!
How cool would that be?

They should make a roving machine so that the person from home can feel like they are in pursuit of the animal. Much more realistic. I'm sure there would need to be more safety precautions though.

As a hunter, this method of hunting sickens me. And I think I speak for the majority of other hunters.

What about the paralyzed that want to go shoot stuff? Huh? Ever thought about them?!

But seriously, how is hunting from your computer any different than actually being there?

As a hunter I consider myself someone who respects the animals I am hunting. IMO, its about fair chase. There are ranches with fenced in animals that people can just sit in their heated tree stand and pick off whatever animal they want. Just like internet hunting, I do not consider this "fair chase". Handicapped people are an exception, although they have made great strides in wheel chairs and equipment to help these people get out and enjoy the sport like the rest of us (I have even seen TV programs with a blind guy killing an animal with a bow as someone else aimed the bow for him).

The end result is you killing an animal. If it dies the exact same way, how is it any different? What you are saying sounds like honorable BS, it's an animal, not another person.

Yep, that's why it's all BS.
