At this point in time, we know about as much as we did back then. Some of the contents of the hard drive have been authenticated. Neither whether the laptop actually belonged to Hunter nor whether the entire contents of the hard drive are authentic have been determined, and they likely never will (at least publicly).

Now that some contents are authenticated, they become newsworthy, but they aren't exactly compelling news either. That Hunter is being investigated for tax fraud is a good thing since apparently evidence exists he may have committed such crimes. Eventually we will find out whether charges will be filed.

At the time, it didn't make sense to publish stories being peddled by political opposition with highly questionable provenance.
