So the rain at my place has tailed off. 8.71 in. Since midnight. 16in since 10:30 PM yesterday. 23+in since Friday.

Only 4 more days to go!

Shit I'd like to go to bed.

Need a bed that floats.....2 feet of rain is terrifying.

Hell, I'm surprised he's still able to casually sit here and post on forums as opposed to trying to stem the flood. That's a lot of water with nowhere to go.

Still here. Looks like our neighbors on the far side of the lake have had flooding and killed power to their houses.

No end in sight to the rain, although it has slowed from the 7in/hr peak we saw.

There is literally nothing to do.
If the water reaches my front door then I'll start moving stuff upstairs.

So far it's been holding steady 1/2 way up my front yard. It also looks like the retention pond lake behind my house is flooding out the opposite side.

I don't know when this will stop or if we'll continue to be lucky.

Going to try and get some sleep.

Rain rate is down quite a bit. At 12.92in so far. Feeder band still streaming in. Don't expect it stop for at least 6 hours.

Woke up to feed my evil mini-me around 5 and now I can't fall back asleep. Thankfully in the last hour or so it looks like we got through another rain band - so we have had a good pause and the water has receeded a little bit. My street was previously flooded up to the back wheels of the car that is in our driveway and has since gone down significantly. The street isn't flooded anymore and I can see the ground, so that's reassuring.

The problem is, I'm pretty sure our retention pond is full or nearly full - so it's all a matter of if we will have sufficient time inbetween rains to make some space to hold more.

The storm has stalled, so it's not going anywhere for a few days. This is essentially what was predicted. The loop was always a high uncertainty event, and not all that important relative to how far inland it stalls. Harvey is a large storm, so its precise location is secondary to the fact that it's stalling over the same cities regardless. It's going to be like a college sit-in for the next 5 days.

So, maybe just take away Harvey's phones and it will disperse?

Our pond almost went over last night. Actually it probably did go over.

It turns out we are one of the highest places in the neighborhood. Completely surrounded by flood waters right now.

More downpour occurring on my side - I'm kinda already under the impression that a flood might be inevitable.

I'm debating if I should even try to save some of the shit downstairs.... Old ikea furniture and a shitty table with chairs that I don't like using...

Stuff you save is stuff you don't have to throw out and stuff you don't have to replace...

Save the stuff you can't replace. Take pictures of everything.

Do you have flood insurance?

NOooOOOOOOoo! I love Franklins!

by the way, did they just not put out their fire properly, or was that fool trying to smoke brisket through the Hurricane?

Probably the latter. Sounds like the wind caught an ember from the pit room and it went up fast.

Of course, who would be stupid not to have flood insurance?

Your place looks worse than mine, the street hasn't filled yet, but if this downpour continues at the same rate it did yesterday it won't be long.

See this for flood status of areas: https://map.texasflood.org/#/map/@29.76915,-95.33249,10z

Ultimately when the bayous fill up, that's when you're truly fucked.

Good tip as far as saving items we can't replace.

From last night.

That pond is normally about 10-12 ft lower.
Thanks.

I don't know how you're staying calm. I'd be freaking out at how close that was. Good luck, and hopefully you're high enough to avoid the water.

This is from NBC. Wonder if there is any truth to it action of the hawk because of the hurricane.

It looks as if the bird was thinking "Hi, can I chill on this comfy seat?! Sorry I have to sit in your car, but have you ever tried flying around in a hurricane with 150 mph winds followed by 3 feet of water? Yeah, that was terrifying stuff bro........Got any mice I can chew on?"

You'd be suprised how many don't have it.

And speaking of stupid some asshole in a dually decided he just had to get home in the middle of the worst of it last night. He drove through everyone's front yards ripping up yards and hitting brick lined flower beds.

This seems fairly typical. We build strong enough for most winds, so the flooding damage is usually the largest problem.

Wow, what a fucking dickhead. Hope someone finds where he lives and does shitloads of donuts in his lawn and keys the shit out of his truck.

I know the max for flood insurance is $250,000 for single family homes and $500,000 for commercial properties if you have an NFIP policy. The premiums were already pretty expensive, but you can buy excess line private policies to cover more than that or in place of an NFIP policy.

If you live in Houston, San Antonio or Austin, flood insurance is pretty much a given for many properties.
