Just saw a dude in Houston driving an airboat down what looks like used to be a 4-5 lane city street on tv.
This seems fairly typical. We build strong enough for most winds, so the flooding damage is usually the largest problem.
idiot.got about an hour of some pretty good thunder here in downtown houston but other than that this has been a bunch of nothing for me. southwest and north sides of town have gotten hammered pretty good though.

Harvey continues to meander over southeastern Texas, where it
is producing catastrophic and life-threatening flooding rainfall.
NWS radars show that bands of deep convection continue to develop
over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico and train over portions of
southeastern Texas, including the Houston/Galveston metropolitan
area. Rainfall amounts greater than 20-25 inches have already been
reported and flash flood emergencies and warnings have been issued
by local National Weather Service offices for a large portion of
southeastern Texas. Additional rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 inches
are expected over the next several days, and the NOAA Weather
Prediction Center is now forecasting isolated storm total amounts of
50 inches.

Sort of. If you aren't aware Fire ants grab onto each other in flood waters and form giant floating balls. They then climb onto whatever they find including people.
How are you holding up? Our street flooded again and then receded again.... Now another band is starting, hoping it goes by quickly.
About 30 feet over bottom of channel, "only" about 5 feet above designed top of bank for floods. The pictures of the bayous with all of the water up to tops of trees... are all designed floodways for these sort of storm surges (the bike path & all the greenery are all part of the emergency flood channel). However, "only" 3-5 feet over top of bank is really bad for nearby subdivisions...Holy crap that's like 40 - 50 feet?
What's scaring the shit out of me is seeing on the news roads that are just outside my neighborhood that are just completely full... meaning that my road can't be too far offOur street is clear and the lake has receded but only by a few feet.

We need a goof multi hour break from the rain for drainage to take place but this f'ing storm refuses to move.
