Cue reports of "hunkering down."

I just found out about the storm today. At the moment I don't see it impacting my forecast, other than unseasonably low temps. Due to its landfall point, it might not head north enough to trouble me.

Thanks!
During Tropical Storm Allison we saw 26in at my old house. Watched the waters come 3/4 the way up my front yard before receding.

During Ike we lost our roof and had to take 1/3 of the new house back to studs.

Hopefully this will just be surface street flooding. My area should only see tropical storm force winds.

Yeah, at this point on this track there's pretty much no chance that it's going to weaken or miss. Somebody is going to get hammered really hard, thing is moving so slowly it's going to sit and stay for a while. Latest projection I saw is the area where the eye hits could see 15-20" of rain. That's a scary amount, especially with a storm surge preceding it.

Galveston Flood
Tom Rush
It was the year of 1900 that was 60 years ago
Death come'd a howling on the ocean and when death calls you've got to go
Galveston had a sea wall just to keep the water down
But a high tide from the ocean blew the water all over the town.
Wasn't that a mighty storm
Wasn't that a mighty storm in the morning
Wasn't that a mighty storm
It blew all the people away.
The sea began to rolling the ships they could not land
I heard a captain crying Oh God save a drowning man
The rain it was a falling and the thunder began to roll
The lightning flashed like Hell-fire and the wind began to blow
The trees fell on the island and the houses gave away
Some they strived and drownded others died every way.
The trains at the station were loaded with the people all leaving town
But the trestle gave way with the water and the trains they went on down
Old death the cruel master when the winds began to blow
Rode in on a team of horses and cried death won't you let me go.
The flood it took my mother it took my brother too
I thought I heard my father cry as I watched my mother go
Old death your hands are clammy when you've got them on my knee
You come and took my mother won't you come back after me?
Wasn't that a mighty storm
Wasn't that a mighty storm in the morning
Wasn't that a mighty storm
It blew all the people away.

Yeah it's funny how even I remember Allison way more than I remember Ike.

Anyhow, these days its all about where you live... being just half an inch higher than the neighborhood behind you can save a lot of grief. Unless your neighborhood has a retention pond or something, you're pretty much screwed.

I'm towards the South East side of town, how about yourself?

Reported for mod callout.

That's the 2nd Harvey trying to rid these boards of Texan Republicans.

Too bad Trumpy Wumpy's wall isn't up or we could call this storm the Harvey Wall Banger.

Same. I'm in the Clear Lake area. As it turns out I have a "lake" i.e. retention pond right behind my house. Drainage is good but I guess we'll see how good this week.

Anyone in Austin concerned right now? I happen to be in Dallas right now and am debating heading back down tomorrow night or just staying put until Sunday night...

I am in Round Rock and so far everything looks normal and we are not that concern. Will just be more rain around here except for some flash floods like Onion Creek. My friends in Dallas and Houston went to the HEBs and reported back that many shelves are emptied out... I still remember the weather guys/gals said 5 to 8 inches of rain during Ike, but instead we got 15!

Cubby, not sure if the roads would be jammed, but the storm is expected to hit tomorrow night. If you want to come abck to Austin, do it tomorrow morning. Otherwise stay in Dallas until Sunday afternoon. Just ask neighbor and friends to watch your pet and house...

I can't say I know of many others in the Houston area, would be down for a beer sometime since were both in the same area.

Galveston is the biggest piece of shit known to man. I mean, even as you start getting into the area you just start to get some whiffs..... *Sniff Sniff* "Whats that smell? Oh, that's Galveston"

I saw some guy in a chat saying he was evacuating from Houston... Are a lot of people leaving Houston, or is he a nutjob?

I would say he is over reacting personally.

The actual eye is no-where near us, it's just the rain-bands that are going to hit us hard... whether you are here or not if your house floods it floods. Personally I'd rather be here during a flood.

Houston is also a big city, it takes up to 1 hour to get from one side of the city to the opposite side - so that kinda matters in regards to if you should evacuate or not.

Then again, maybe I'm stupid and these predicted models are going to be wrong and it will give us a direct hit... who knows.

Yeah, technically I'm in Pville far away from the likes of Onion Creek. Only reason I'm even mildly concerned is 'cause I've been flooded before (incidentally in West Campus) and don't wanna deal with that crap again.

Remember these storms?

I dunno about Houston, but given that the storm is already slow-moving (~10mph) and is expected to slow down even further once it makes landfall...

Might be an overreaction at this point, but if I had a wife and kids with me I'd be more inclined to consider it.

Widespread evacuations have been ordered along Texas' Gulf Coast ahead of Hurricane Harvey.

Officials in Calhoun, Victoria, Jackson, San Patricio and Refugio counties north of Corpus Christi issued orders on Thursday, along with the cities of Portland, Rockport, Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Ingleside and Robstown. All residents of Brazoria County living on the Gulf side of the Intracoastal Canal have been ordered to evacuate, as well.
...
Nueces County and the City of Corpus Christi have also issued a mandatory evacuation for high profile vehicles, KZTV reports, but no full evacuation has been ordered yet.

Ya this isn't something you evacuate from. Houston should at most get tropical storm force winds.

We evacuated for Rita and that was an awful experience. The 3 hour trip to San Antonio took 14 hours. Folks who went to Dallas were on the road for 40 hours.

We also evacuated for Ike. That wasn't so bad since everyone remembered how bad the evacuation was for Rita.

Sitting in Austin, not too worried. People on the coast may be slightly more annoyed though...

Supermarkets in my area were picked over for bread and water today.

A few gas stations were out of gas. The ones with gas were all packed.
