Found this link about Alison: http://www.ssqq.com/stories/advent36.htm

This is about where I was stuck...the water had nearly reach the top of the semi-trailer but had already receded when this pic was taken. All of the cars in the lower right were completely submerged. Also, in this pic but is hard to tell is that those cars were trying to exit an entrance ramp (the same one I was able to exit from) - the cars are facing the wrong direction in the pic:

I am from Taiwan. Typhoon/hurricane is not all that scary for me.

So far, this does not look like a Katrina type event. But that was the wind, now comes the massive flooding. I work with loans in flood zones, so I expect we will see come claims.

Politicians don't like to spend money on non sexy infrastructure like storm drain. Public likes to see newly paved streets. This is what happens.

Katrina is really more about stupidity of building New Orleans.

True. Lack of infrastructure spending and planning in the US is awful right now, especially given the size of this country. Katrina was a hard hit in any case, no amount of planning would have stopped all the damage.

Not building below water level is usually a good start.

Blame the French, and the stubbornness of people not wanting to move an established city further upriver.

They kinda learned with the original settlement of Mobile, AL at Twenty-seven Mile Bluff (worse flooding upriver, though) versus the city's current location at the river mouth (floods in extremely heavy rain, or with hurricane storm surge).

Is it just me or has the storm kinda not gone in the direction they anticipated? Originally the path of the storm was to do a loop going towards houston and then going out to the gulf, but based on what I'm seeing it's almost like it's going towards San Antonio?

Last night, the Weather channel was showing the wildly different projected paths of 6 different computer models.
