I live about 40 miles south of where the Hurricane is about to hit. I can't believe power and internet are still on! It's getting pretty crazy, I would say 70+mph winds and sideways rain. Wish me luck everyone, I moved here just after Irma, so I'm still a hurricane virgin- for about another 15 minutes or so.

Fortunately for Tampa the track changed and it is being somewhat spared. It will land further south around Port Charlotte. Ian is so big that almost the whole state will have at least a tropical storm.

Stay safe! Don't go out in the storm or immediately after. Follow all emergency management directives that are issued. Use your phone if service stays up to know about boil water orders, that kind of thing. Otherwise I hope you have a weather radio. Nothing worse than not knowing what is going on.

@ksheets

Did you do your due diligence in prepping? You are a member here so I am guessing you were almost OCD about it.

LOl- I grew up in Ohio so Ive had my fair experience with snow/tornados. Weather Radio, 15 gallons of water and a full tub to flush

2 full propane tanks and 10 gallons of gas and a duel-fuel generator to keep essentials running. Ive done about all I can do ( I think)

I surmised as much. Rare for idiots to find their way here. Though we have a few anyways.

We are getting 40MPH+ gusts here, and I am on the opposite side of the state. Torrential rain too. Can't remember a hurricane that started spanking us this hard from so far away.

Good looking storm.

My sister and nieces are riding it out in Orlando. All tracks lead to Orlando. One niece works for Disney and the company offered to put her up in one of their hotels, pay board, and pay her 24h/day to work through the storm. She took the offer as the hotels are a lot better built than her apartment.

Hurricane Ian Discussion Number 24
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL AL092022
1100 AM EDT Wed Sep 28 2022

Air Force Reserve and NOAA Hurricane Hunter data was absolutely
critical this morning in diagnosing the rapid intensification of
Ian, despite both planes undergoing multiple eyewall penetrations
experiencing severe turbulence. That data supported an intensity of
about 135 kt a few hours ago. Since that time, high-resolution
Tampa Doppler radar data has been sampling the eyewall near 10,000
ft with winds up to 155 kt, indicating that Ian is on the threshold
of category 5 status. The maximum winds are set to 135 kt on this
advisory.

Ian is expected to make landfall in southwestern Florida in the next
few hours as a catastrophic hurricane. No changes were made to the
track forecast near Florida, except to be faster to come into line
with the latest consensus aids. One important change is that Ian
is likely to remain more intact as it crosses the Florida peninsula
(due to both its stronger initial wind speed and its faster forecast
forward speed), and this now increases the threat of hurricane-force
winds on the east coast of Florida. This necessitates the issuance
of a Hurricane Warning on the east coast of central Florida. While
significant re-strengthening of Ian might not occur over the
Atlantic Ocean, model guidance has been catching up with a
trough interaction from a shortwave over the southern United
States, and are stronger than yesterday on Ian's intensity with
more baroclinic forcing. Thus, a Hurricane Watch has been issued
from northeastern Florida northward up the coast through most of
coastal South Carolina. The new intensity forecast is raised from
the previous one, near the latest statistical-dynamical guidance.

Here's hoping all of you south of me stay safe!

It now looks like the worst thing we will get here in Tallahassee and the rest of the FL panhandle is a stiff breeze, and I am grateful that this time we escaped unscathed.

This storm is a massive beast. Getting dicey here already a few miles inland of Cocoa Beach. Feeder bands are creating rain wrapped tornadoes. Center will pass pretty close north of here based on most models. Probably lose power for hours to days. Generator was serviced yesterday, have 60hrs worth of gas, and everything else is good to go. We had Hurricane windows put in, and a new 130MPH rated roof, so hopefully we do okay.

Poor bastards where this makes landfall have it infinitely worse. It will look like a bomb went off, like with Mexico Beach.
My sister reports that in Orlando, conditions have deteriorated to "breezy". It's weird that Cocoa Beach is getting hit harder now.

Right now is the strongest the storm has been in Bonita Springs- hoping this is the worst of it, but who knows

Wait the park is open during the hurricane?

No, but they need workers to look after stuff and start cleanup as soon as possible. Hotel guests were allowed to stay in their rooms if they have no where else to go.

When hurricanes hit Florida it's good to know these threads are where we can find where the conservatives are posting from. But sorry, and to the topic it looks like Disney World will be destroyed before I get a chance to travel there to see it.

Videos like that are tough to watch. I wonder who those cars belong to? The owners must have known that leaving their car there, the cars would certainly be totaled? Did they just say screw it I will file a claim later?
