Wish you the best.

Hopefully it heads for Mara-Lago!

That place really needs a direct hit from a Cat 5+++++
On the other hand, you sure you want the rest of those top secret documents to get “distributed” via air mail?

Dumb question but if there is even a 1 or 2-foot storm surge that encompasses your house the house is basically completely destroyed right? Or are the houses at least designed to anticipate some amount of flooding so critical infrastructure is raised off the floors?

My understanding is once water gets in your home it's basically totalled because mold will develop in the walls and support structures rot and weaken. it's not fixable or treatable. Plus these waters are not clean. They are often mixed with sewage and etc.

That's a lot of water but I think it's salvageable if it's primarily oceanwater and it recedes promptly. If it sits in it for a while and everything's able to absorb it... yeah, that's probably a loss.

You aren't supposed to have to replenish beaches, we have to because we fucked the ecosystem so much.

As said above, yeah, lots of places west of the rockies (as well as desert states) shouldn't have been inhabited. There's a reason they weren't by the native peoples and it wasn't just because they didn't have steel.

Storms etc naturally erode beaches and if we didn't build sea walls on the beach and dams on the waterways feeding back to the oceans the beaches would take care of themselves.

Anyway you missed the point: Even then the coast doesn't get "eaten away" every year. Not even close...

Depends where you are. The Outer Banks are definitely retreating landward. The Mississippi delta is eroding faster than it is being replenished, mainly due to the Corps' efforts to keep the Mississippi River at New Orleans.

This is supposed to be a thread about the hurricane.
Oh please ... The reply I made that you quoted was a reply that was not off topic, Do you consider what he posted on the topic " about the hurricane". And if he has that type of attitude about people living in Florida that he thinks of as family, well... I think it's a shitty attitude to have ... sue me. I posted that type of thought about it.

And it's pretty nonsensical to think that everyone is stupid because they live near a coastline in the gulf or lower Carolina's and in the whole state of Florida. You could say everyone's a moron for living on an earthquake fault line, or in the desert where there is limited/no water, or in tornado alley, or near the Mississippi or Missouri rivers... Or ANY river when they flood, Or near a volcano. Hell there have been predictions that if a major earthquake hits the Alaska Denali faut line, A huge Sunami would wipe out Seattle and Portland. Are they all idiots for living there? people have been living on coastlines and rivers since the dawn of human evolution. What's the plan of today? move everyone out of Florida, the Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georga and Carolina coastines?. People will continue to live near the coastlines and cities, towns, and ports will continue sink or be engulfed in water. It's happened throughout history by natural disasters. Now I do think people who refuse to evacuate in the face of a natural disaster are stupid, considering the technology and prediction models of today? Yes.... And it's also a crying shame that a segment of the US population thinks we are not accelerating the warming of our planet and the eventual loss of our coastlines.

Add Hilton Head Island to that. I've personally seen those beaches erode year after year, despite the dump trucks worth of sand they bring in to try to slow it down.

Dude I live on the gulf coast. I've spent 14 hours in a car with 2 kids 3 and under evacuating 200 miles from a hurricane, I've spent 4 months and over $100K in insurance rebuilding my house after a direct hit by a hurricane, I've spent a week helping muck out and demo my coworkers flooded houses after we got 50+ inches of rain from a hurricane and you know what? I understand that when someone says they hope a Cat 5 hits a politicians house it doesn't mean they wish everyone in it's path gets hit. It is a comment built on a desire for leaders who don't seem to understand the severity of what they do to suffer the same as us for the results of their poor leadership.

IIRC after the 4 hurricanes in a row around 2002 or 3, they started requiring new builds to be raised, or on stilts if you will. It may have even been county specific.

Basically you could park your vehicles underneath your home. Seen some free standing stilt homes, around Hernando/ Pasco counties.

That is also when it became almost uninsurable down there. My wife's parents sold their home in citrus county, and basically had to throw in everything that was in it to get it sold. I think that is the only house they may have taken a loss or broke even on. They decided to get a "trailer" years later, and it was a big ordeal to get insurance, and they have perfect credit. like over 800 I believe. They made money on that one. Decided not to go back. Age catching up with them.

*Sigh* .... First of all, The post you quoted me with the Francis meme gif has nothing to do with your reply in post 112. And I replied to what you quoted me on, which was my thoughts about the guy who thinks everyone should be moved out of Florida, the gulf coastlines and who thinks YOU are stupid for living where you do, and doesn't have any sympathy for what you went through in you description above, BUT.... he would help you anyway. and posted to the effect that I think it's a somewhat contradicting smug shit attitude...so again, sue me!

Given what you went through...Do you think that states that have hypocrite politician's/governors who bleat on about not taking government handouts should not be given aid in a natural disaster? Do you think partisan politics be set aside during a natural disaster? Should the helicopter pilot yell down to the stranded person on a rooftop "Hey did you vote for Ron DeSantis?, If so bye, bye motherfucker!"

I understand that when someone says they hope a Cat 5 hits a politicians house it doesn't mean they wish everyone in it's path gets hit. It is a comment built on a desire for leaders who don't seem to understand the severity of what they do to suffer the same as us for the results of their poor leadership.

As for this part ... Ya know, my first post in this thread was well wishes for fellow Floridians who may be in the path of this thing. Assuming this MIGHT be the narrative. But as with P&N normality, it was brought down to shit partisan political cheap shots, even in the face of natural disaster outcomes. Obviously, there are heavy biases, assumption's and in reality, out and out hatred for states like Florida, Texas and the like and the perceptions of the people that live there. And I get it, that is the norm for some people on this board, who incidentally claim the "moral high ground" in their political sports teams "ideology". It's nice that you seem to know what anonymous people's motives are (and who knows, maybe you know them in real life) when they post the shit things on here about people in "the others" states that they do. ... It may be some motivational comment on a perceived "desire" on their part and that is why they post what they do. Now... I could have looked the other way when multiple people posted about how they hoped a cat5 would hit a specific area in Florida, considering I live where they wanted it to hit. But I had the nerve to post something hitting back at those who label themselves as "liberal" and claim the morally higher ground to clarify those comments. And to Zorba's credit, he had the guts to do it. But then you have a smug little dipshit like Mr. Squished chiming in about what a "disgusting people" I am and what "evil" party I must belong to what "shitty" people I must be associated with without any knowledge of who and what the fuck he's talking about. And then the clown had the nerve to tell me to "be better". If you want to make excuses for shitty behavior on here, even in the wake of death and destruction, fine.... but, It set me off and I unloaded. So ..I guess...This "Francis" says sorry if that pissed you off.

"Yawn!" - I see neither "mountains" nor "molehills" What I did see is some reactionary attack me personally with dumb shittery like what a "disgusting people" I am and what "evil" party I must belong to what "shitty" people I must be associated with on an anonymous message board. I'll tell you what - I'll assume you just had a bad day and are not some projectionist shitheel of a person in real life and leave it at that. Good day and have a nice Labor day weekend!

Well you are the one that came in flinging out all sorts of high and mighty derogatory insults to 'liberals' about a situation that did not really exist. You acted just like they do. Making up horrible nonsense to pwn the libs.

So fucking calm the fuck down, and get your shit together.

Coastlines are constantly changing everywhere and always have been. People building seawalls, Houses and drainage canals along the coast only makes it worse.

If it was normal for HHI to lose dozens of feet of coastline a year, it would have ceased to exist well prior to human intervention.

As I stated earlier... (See bolded underlined text above from my previous post).

Like it or not coastlines have always been in a constant state of change to a more or lesser extent everywhere.

** But I know you you only want to flex and argue...
Meh.

Actually DeSantis literally said to 'knock on wood' about this hurricane season lolol

Florida’s insurance crisis: DeSantis says ‘knock on wood’ during hurricane season

Insurers will return to Florida after hurricane season, DeSantis says

It gets worse. Thanks to DeSantis and the Repugs, it will be exponentially harder and more expensive for Florida home owners to get affordable home insurance and/or to fight those companies when they lowball them.

There is no reason for house insurance to exist in Florida.
It simply cannot be profitable.

Solution, encourage working class people to LEAVE the state. It is unaffordable.

Good luck getting a mortgage in Florida.

If I were running the loss section of a bank that offers mortgages in FL, I'd be sending all my customers insurance verification letters.

I can see a HUGE problem here going forward as insurance companies either pull out entirely, or raise their rates to where a significant # of current mortgage holders can't make the increased payments.
