The damage to the rest of the houses on the canal is catastrophic. My neighbors audi is now in his front yard and his house is gone completely. It looks like a bomb hit.
Congrats bud! That's awesome for you and wasn't that kind of expected of your neighbors house?
I don't think he expected this much damage. His trailer is gone (it's just a debris field) and you can see his audi as the largest "structure" on his lot.
is this the lot to the left of the alpha house of the bunch?
Yeah. The center house that is 3 stories tall and looks undamaged is mine. There was an "L" shaped trailer house about 10 yards to the left of my house... that was Bruce's house. His audi is now the only discernible object on his lot.
clearly you put the money in where it mattered.
All customers who lost electricity on the eastern side of the state will likely have power restored by the end of this weekend, Florida Power & Light said Tuesday.
An FPL official told reporters at a Broward County news conference that of the 790,000 customers in that county who lost power, 330,000 had their electricity restored Tuesday.
The company is focusing its efforts first on schools, hospitals and other critical infrastructure. Gas stations and restaurants are next on the plan, the official said.
Customers on the west coast of Florida, where Hurricane Irma made its final landfall, will likely have power restored by September 22, the company has said.

He had a nice newer Jaguar in 2011 parked next to the little trailer home.
You have a lot of space in your house. 5 bedroom with 5 bathrooms at 3300 sqft. Renting out portions of it? It sticks out on Zilllow as much as it sticks out in that aftermath photo. It certainly is better built compared to the neighboring structures.
I just looked at Zillow and I don't know what they're smoking, but it's not worth that much. Maybe half that.
It's a big house, but nothing special.

Whoah, you literally saved their lives.
I'm not trying to downplay the destruction in the Keys. It is horrible. I had lunch with my brother-in-law/wife/kid on Friday, who evacuated and has a house in Summerland Key; along with a friend (with wife and 2 kids) of his that had a house in Big Pine. My bro-in-law's house supposedly survived but his buddy's house allegedly lost its roof and was destroyed. They won't know for a week or two when they can go back and inspect for themselves what the extent of the damage is. My wife and I are leaving for vacation in NC on Friday and they will be staying at our house while we are gone and may be staying for a while after we get back, depending on the situation. While I agree about the media outlets love to hype everything for rating, the Keys indeed are in bad shape. Look here, even the US Navy is sending a carrier and several ships to help - https://www.yahoo.com/news/weakened-irma-lashes-tampa-bay-060510202.html

I'm just pissed at the schmuck media that continues to show trailer parks that were completely wiped out in the Keys as if that's representative of reality. It's disheartening to those that have places that might have/should have survived, even if the chances are slim.
Just saw his house on an ABC News video feed..look at those lots around the neighborhood...complete rubble, yikes:
Holy crap. Congrats man! Especially with that scale of devastation, that has to be a massive relief that your house is still in one piece. And even though a big part of that was making the right building decisions, you probably got a bit lucky too; I can't imagine a Cat 5 would have left things intact like that.My house survived!!!
