9-29-2005 Alabama Senator says Katrina was God's wrath on sinful coast

A state senator in Alabama says Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment on a sinful part of America.

State Sen. Hank Erwin, R-Montevallo, wrote in a weekly column for news outlets: "New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast have always been known for gambling, sin and wickedness. It is the kind of behavior that ultimately brings the judgment of God."

"Warnings year after year by godly evangelists and preachers went unheeded. So why were we surprised when finally the hand of judgment fell?" Erwin wrote. "Sadly, innocents suffered along with the guilty. Sin always brings suffering to good people as well as the bad."

The New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary was flooded by Katrina. But Erwin said the Baptists knew they were ministering in a sinful place that could be targeted.

The Mississippi coast has always been known for gambling? I'm 23 and when I was a kid, they didn't have casinos.

It's only a*sin*when it can't be taxed

Thinkin' about all you folks down there and glad to hear you'all

are serviving this ordeal.

I sit here doing a budget build, listening to Louis Armstrong,
Preservation Hall Jazz Band is up next and feel content in knowing
in less than a year, the music will once again fill NO.
The Gulf Coast of Miss. will party again.

The radical fundies are a major Southern turn-off for me. They should
do a little reading on casting the first stone. Most folks don't know what it
is to be good, until they've been bad

Some guys doing restoration work here at the building where I work went for a ride for a break. They came across a house with a hole in the side from storm damage.

A large Pit Bull started barking through the hole, then when the dog moved aside saw a small puppy that was so skinny from a month of no food or water. They broke down the door and saved the dogs.

The puppy nearly starved to death.

They are both doing better now.

I'm Polish and they didn't get'em from me

The very deep History of NO is filled with evrything the Carribiean had to offer
and whats happening does not suprise. It will shake itself out in time.

Scavanging happens after any disaster. The focus is just on NO at the moment
and your in the middle of it. As we speak, major fires are burning around high-dollar
homes here in SoCal. Ppl don't want to evacuate because of looters.

Socal only has three seasons: Summer,Fire,Flood

dm, my dream road trip would be 3-4 months of eating my way through the
rural South. I worked with several Cajons out here in th"oil patch", fine folk.

In total, i gave $200 to the Red Cross and Salvation Army. That and keeping
the ppl on the GC&NO in my true thoughts and prayers is all i can do.

Thank you sir and all others that have helped and thanks for all the prayers and thoughts for everyone on the Gulf Coast and New Orleans.

I got today and tomorrow off, been pretty much going non-stop since the storm(s).

Took a ride into the city last night and followed a caravan of military humvees instead of police on horseback down Bourbon street so it was actually the cleanest I have ever seen the street and no smell of horsesh!t.

Most of the bars & clubs are up and running with the military, helpers from out of town and the locals that have returned enjoying the sounds and drinks of the French Quarter.

The city will be OK and back sooner than later.

The Superdome will get the facelift that folks wanted.

The hardest hit areas that were under 20 feet of water will take a lot more work.

Hopefully everyone learned from this and all structures built with the first floor designed to be under water. The houses that were already raised faired perfectly well and those folks will be able to move back in once power is restored to the neighborhood.

That's a bit of good news. I know it's expensive but on PBS there was a show on homes in
the Netherlands. The houses were built on flooting docks, they could rise and fall riding
on concrete piles.

I do hope that Dutch engineers get involved in the rethinking of the levee improvements.

I apologize for being so stupid and getting dumber everyday.

Today the insurance adjuster from Travelers finally arrived.

He examined the bashed in roof in the back of the house from having a giant Oak tree through it. Mind you the front took a pretty good beating and the house was built in 1980.

He said the smart thing to do is just replace the back half the roof so he puts us down for half a roof.

I'm the only one that protested. Everyone here at the house felt that is a good thing.

Let's see, neighbor to the left of me with Allstate already got entire roof replaced, had no tree hit the house and only had a few shingles missing.

Neighbor on the right had one branch hit the corner by the garage and State Farm already replaced his entire roof.

I'm must be and am such a tard.
