In this interview Chertoff kept avoiding Robert Seigel's reports of NPR reporter at the Convention Center. Chertoff kept saying people should go to where there is food and water that has already been delivered (HOW THE F*CK ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO KNOW? THERE'S NO POWER!)All Things Considered, September 1, 2005
· Days after Hurricane Katrina made landfall east of New Orleans, thousands remain stranded in the city, many without food or fresh water. The city's mayor has issued what he called an "Urgent SOS" for help.
Heavily armed National Guard troops evacuated people from the squalid conditions of the damaged Superdome; the evacuees are being bused to the Astrodome in Houston.
But it has now emerged that people stranded at the New Orleans Convetion Center -- about eight blocks away from the Superdome -- are in dire straights, lacking basic essentials and avoiding corpses and waste on the streets.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff is overseeing the biggest recovery operation in U.S. history. President Bush is proposing $10 billion in relief for the area.
Possible but unlikely.Originally posted by: jfall
Is it possible that the "shooter(s)" could have been shooting in the air to alert the helicopter that they were there. Kind of like an SOS signal? Yes, it's a stupid way to get noticed, but it would makes sense

There ya go, Governor! Kick some ass, seabass. Order needs to be restored so the evacuations and rescues can proceed safely and the levee breach repairs completed."I have 2 issues to talk about.
#1 300 Arkansas guard troops just back from Iraq are now in New Orleans. They are under my orders to restore order immediately. They are armed with M15s and are trained to use them. They are battle tested. They will restore order. The people who are interfering with our attempt to help the people of New Orleans will no longer be tolerated. We are expecting the other troops that I have DEMANDED soon.
#2. Dennis Hastert said today that we should not rebuild New Orleans. I DEMAND an apology, and I DEMAND it immediately."

I was told today that West Memphis still has gas, and plenty. I also was told to go late at night to avoid lines. So I am heading over the bridge tonight into Arkansas country to see if I can fill up. Wish me luck
