Oh, and there's no gasoline in Jackson, MS.

Where did you hear that from -- WWL I assume? I've got a good friend in Jackson who basically told me the same thing today (see my post a few pages up).

I was told today that West Memphis still has gas, and plenty. I also was told to go late at night to avoid lines. So I am heading over the bridge tonight into Arkansas country to see if I can fill up. Wish me luck

Isn't there a gas refinery/distribution center in or around Memphis? Based on that, I wouldn't think a gas shortage there would ever be a problem.

It's towns in the damaged areas in LA, MS, and AL that might be in trouble. As already mentioned, Jackson is apparently running low. With the distribution centers that deliver to the stations down, where else would they get it from?

Not sure. But I know I tried to fill up today, and the station was out. I also heard others were out as well. I didn't want to waste gas driving around looking for it. I am downtown, so west memphis is just a hop and a skip away from here.

"I have 2 issues to talk about.

#1 300 Arkansas guard troops just back from Iraq are now in New Orleans. They are under my orders to restore order immediately. They are armed with M15s and are trained to use them. They are battle tested. They will restore order. The people who are interfering with our attempt to help the people of New Orleans will no longer be tolerated. We are expecting the other troops that I have DEMANDED soon.

#2. Dennis Hastert said today that we should not rebuild New Orleans. I DEMAND an apology, and I DEMAND it immediately."
There ya go, Governor! Kick some ass, seabass. Order needs to be restored so the evacuations and rescues can proceed safely and the levee breach repairs completed.

Wow, that's the way to get things done. They need some leadership.

Hey guys please listen to this report by this MSNBC reporter - he's inside at ground zero and days there has been no gunfire no riots and some looting but nothing that would warrant the reports that things are dangerous in that area.

You have to get through the first part of the video (all the desperate refugees asking for help) to get to this reporter's account of how bad things are after 4 days of no electricity, water, food, people dying around them, etc.

I just heard reports that some of the shooting at helicopters was in an effort to let someone know they were down there after being repeatedly passed by over by aircraft for days and STILL NO help insight...

http://video.msn.com/v/us/v.htm?f=00&g=...e3-4e70f5eff2e4&t=m5&p=News_NBC%20News

...so yes i stand corrected, as there seemed to have been some shooting but i don't think this should not have caused a full-scale pull back when over 15,000 lives hang in the balance! this would not be tolerated in an affluent area of New Orleans no matter what kind of danger they faced!

so they can find 300 military people to CONTROL RIOTS but NO ONE who can help transport people out of there? THAT IS TOTAL BS! They know that if they go in there with guns they will get EVERY OPPORTUNITY to kill some more people after these people have been left there to die - I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS SH!T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm listening to the NOLA scanner. People getting arrested and are shot.

A hospital is evacuating because the generator is running out of fuel.

A truck full of MRE's is on his way to the super dome.

You have listen to the reporter's report after all of the interviews of the refugees...

This reporter is at ground zero and doesn't hear gun shots and says it sure isn't unsafe to be there....

http://video.msn.com/v/us/v.htm?f=00&g=...e3-4e70f5eff2e4&t=m5&p=News_NBC%20News

That video needs to be captured/downloaded and spread around the net BEFORE it gets taken down.

it's been edited and broadcast again - i just heard another version after hitting another link. this man had to sneak in b/c the state police WASN'T ALLOWING ANY MEDIA IN for whatever reason.

how is it soooo bad that they would pull back all efforts to help these people yet this man can sneak in (risking his life?) get all of this footage (this is an edited version as they couldn't show a lot of the more tragic scenes) and make it out without issue but cops and military won't budge AFTER TELLING THESE PEOPLE TO GO HERE?

i can't take this! they send all of these people to this one place, won't let media in, and start spreading the word about how bad it is in there! this is not happening here in the US is it?

This sh1t is crazy! I live in Shreveport, LA and we have 1000's of NO refugees here. At least we have the good ones. Down in Baton Rouge they are rioting and trying to loot there. Something you need to know is that something like 60%(approximate) of NO residents were welfare state stooges. That is the contingent that you are seeing in the streets in NO. NO was one of, if not the, poorest city in the nation as far as residents. I have a friend that had to chase a cab full of looters from the neighborhood they were staying at after the storm hit their house in Mandeville, LA. To be honest, if they get rid of all the gov't housing in NO and let private contractors and developers handle the details NO can only be better for this, sad as that sounds.

News 2 Houston reported the red cross was not accepting anymore LA residents at the Astrodome circa 10:35PM - only 4000 were reported being there around 10:00 PM.

jfall - the news here didn't say they were full - they didn't know why they weren't accepting any more refugees.

From what I have heard they are evacuating the superdome... not accepting anyone. They are busing everyone out to the Astrodome and other locations.

i really don't care what type of people they are (socio-economically) i just can't take this after the kind of responses we had after the Tsunami and 9/11

there is no way after 4 days nothing could have been done unless there was an order to stop helping these people. the are risks in every rescue operation but NEVER have they stopped trying!

for the longest time all the buses sat outside the city many loaded with supplies yet they sat b/c they heard the people were looting and shooting.

well, there are more and more reports that it was nothing like what's being reported on my local 10 oclock news channels!

now this is what everyone here hears and most will feel they got what they deserved when this is hardly the case!

Unconfirmed reports that someone died in the Astrodome - may be why they aren't accepting more

from wwl-

Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco declared war on looters as 300 National Guard troops landed in New Orleans fresh from duty in Iraq. "These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will," she said.

Discovery channel has a show on with flood control details and hurrican related things. Those pumps are massive, yet they estimate a month to drain the city.
