The difference between the N & S is that these trees haven't gone through these winds before. The more frequent large storms down there keep down the number of suspect trees. Also, many of the trees will be experiencing winds from the complete opposite direction as the predominant winds in their areas.

Excellent point

Wow.

Currently on the 15th floor in a building in the Kensington portion of Brooklyn, NY. About 1/2 mile north of a sizeable evac zone.

Not even close to Sandy's worst for the day, and already the wind/rain is extremely intense.

This is gonna be interesting.

Live pic I just took now from my window.

I'm in Jersey City by Hudson River, we're looking up the river along NYC on right. Currently perfectly calm, just bit windy. Not a drop of rain.

Just woke up now.. the boardwalk is already flooded and Sandy's worst is all the way at 10pm.

Game over. Nice knowing you all.

From latest reports, Sandy has gotten stronger, now winds up to 85 mph.

In Boston, rain and wind gusts up to 40 mph but it's supposed to get stronger and stronger as the day goes along.

Windy here in Wood Ridge NJ but nothing all that severe yet. Doesn't seem to be that much water coming down but I'm sure that will change.

Thanks to the giants last night I'm off the next two days so my biggest fear is the inevitable boredom.

The squirrels don't seem impressed by all of this. I went outside to help my neighbor get his grill into my garage and there were 3 or 4 of them hanging on for dear life halfway up a tree. They did their best to keep the tree between me and them but they didn't seem to have much interest in being up in the branches.

Yeah but banks are still open and people still will submit electronic trades. Everyone is working from home me and a few managers are in the office. Complaining about what they are gonna do with all these transactions lol

New generator acquired (local Gander Mtn. had a shipment of 200 come in overnight) so no worries here. The store even opened early, and every single sale at 7 AM included a generator in the lengthening line.

Roads were more or less empty today going to work. Guess my place is run by one of the asshole people who are forcing people to go to work today. "Who cares if you die or get severely injured, we will work you like a rented mule."

Damn, I work at a bank in PA and evidently we haven't had weather related time off in 20-30 years, but we're getting out at noon today and tentatively planning to have all of tomorrow off as well. I never expected that.

In anne arundel county an its just been raining medium.

I'm only a few miles from you and it's raining water. I know it's water because Channel 13's Ron Matz is sticking his foot in it telling us "this is water". Thanks Ron.

I wonder if he had to sing Monday Monday all by himself out there.

Very little traffic coming in to work today. Hopefully I'll be out of here and on my way home by noon.

Just get out of there by early afternoon if you can. I was surprised my boss didn't make us come in for a half day. He always "under-reacts" to weather.

Metrowest, MA here. I live ~10 minutes from work so I drove in. It's completely dead. Help desk guy is inundated with people who are fucking stupid and have forgotten how the hell to log in to VPN. I'll probably stick around until noon and then go home.

Been periods of light and heavy rain here since yesterday afternoon. Not too much wind though.

15 miles of I95 (North of Philly to Trenton), I passed 6 vehicles and I was speeding at 60mph.

Get to clients site and told that they closed.
Headed back to hotel and even less cars going southboound

The wind is gusting to 50 from the NE here now. I should have set up a web cam. The tide is not even high yet. It will be in 2 and a half hours, but the level is well over the high water mark already.

I'm not too worried in central PA. We're on high ground so no flooding concerns. The only thing that sucks for us is when the power goes out we lose water since we are on well. I've filled the bathtubs with water for flushing the toilets, all my 5 gallons buckets with water for the dogs, etc..., and about 20 gallons of drinking water into jugs.
