I lived there and in s/w CT for 5.5yrs, I've been through 4 'canes, 3 in FL and 1 in NYC. While Irene wasn't a huge deal this will have a far larger impact. To say this is being blown out of proportion is to completely ignore the reality of how NYC and the surrounding MSA are constructed vis a vis infrastructure, location to the ocean and sea level.

If Bloomberg hadn't evacuated certain areas and fatalities had happened you'd be sitting here in a week saying "Well, they're a bunch of morons for not listening to the experts".
