My wife asked me what I wanted for christmas. My answer was easy and simple - a professionally installed generator transfer switch to the panel with an outside plug...that's what I want from Santa.
Why the outside plug? I'm a generator newb.

What happens to the plumbing in these tall ass buildings during flood situations?
To feed the panel/house, you don't want to run a generator inside ya know....that'd be bad...m'kay?
But seriously, it's windy as fuck here in KY
Cool, never seen that in VA. Or MD/NJ/WV/DE/PA either.

you basically cant get it outside of Maine, Mass and NH
Gotcha, so you can turn it off from the inside you mean. Neat idea.
Aren't you guys getting snow??
I would be too. Yet another overhyped story about a small storm. Certainly some people were affected, but instead of trying to scare everyone, they should have just warned people in areas near water.
They need to stop crying wolf.
Just got out of a meeting. There's going to be scads of utility workers and equipment coming from all over the country. Probably 500 trucks alone between California and Oregon.

Hard to say...in terms of raw outright destruction, absolutely. But if you count damages in dollars, the mere fact that it hit NYC makes the numbers pretty high. I mean, it probably costs $100,000 just to replace a street sign in NYC.The storm is large but only a cat 1 so it won't do as much damaged as Katrina.
My buddy is a lineman from Illinois, and he was sent out East with a crew that left Saturday morning. I think he said their destination was Syracuse, NY.
smart guy
So where is that?
