I was cooking a pizza when my power went out and then later it came back so I stuffed myself. Thank god my bike is still standing out there. Dowco cover ftw

My wife asked me what I wanted for christmas. My answer was easy and simple - a professionally installed generator transfer switch to the panel with an outside plug...that's what I want from Santa.

Why the outside plug? I'm a generator newb.

Power flaked out here a couple times in the past hour, but not long enough to matter. My comp is set to not power back on from an outage, but it was so short that it restarted. PPL shows almost 100k without power throughout eastern PA.

NOAA's latest shows the eye path staying farther south than before (until it swings north to WNY) and the worst pockets have gone by, so the worst of the storm is probably over for us.

To feed the panel/house, you don't want to run a generator inside ya know....that'd be bad...m'kay?

But seriously, it's windy as fuck here in KY

Gotcha, so you can turn it off from the inside you mean. Neat idea.

Aren't you guys getting snow??

I would be too. Yet another overhyped story about a small storm. Certainly some people were affected, but instead of trying to scare everyone, they should have just warned people in areas near water.

They need to stop crying wolf.

The storm is large but only a cat 1 so it won't do as much damaged as Katrina.

Just got out of a meeting. There's going to be scads of utility workers and equipment coming from all over the country. Probably 500 trucks alone between California and Oregon.

My buddy is a lineman from Illinois, and he was sent out East with a crew that left Saturday morning. I think he said their destination was Syracuse, NY.

It's so my generator can provide power to the entire house and I choose what breakers to turn on instead of trying to run power cords everywhere. The transfer switch is so I can choose generator power or service power and not kill somebody working on the lines. The transfer switch also let's me know when I have mains power so I can switch and turn off generator.

They downgraded our wind speed again. Sounds like NYC and Atlantic City got the worst of it, and us folks to the south are riding it out pretty well. My sump pump is working overtime, but besides that things seem to be holding up pretty well. Nothing in the streets but water and leaves. GF is watching some mindless movie on Netflix and looking bored.

However, methinks the mayor of Atlantic City won't get another term.

Hard to say...in terms of raw outright destruction, absolutely. But if you count damages in dollars, the mere fact that it hit NYC makes the numbers pretty high. I mean, it probably costs $100,000 just to replace a street sign in NYC.

Those guys are awesome.

My company isn't predicting too much damage (we serve rural parts of NY, NH, VT and MA). Last fall when the freak snowstorm hit, we had crews go in from MN and WI. I'm sure we'll have some outages but nothing too major.

The major problem during natural disasters is usually that roads are either impassable for the first couple days after a major event. We had one really bad one last year where one town lost a bunch of roads. I mean...the whole roads were gone!

Good luck Northeast friends. I'm praying for you all.
