I just heard someone died directly from the storm in Toronto.

Possible in some areas, but I imagine that after they start to assess damage tomorrow, you'll start to see at least partial service restoration. But who knows, it's all speculation at this point. The MTA tweet says water of unknown depth in East River tunnels.

It won't even get close. Katrina practically leveled New Orleans; no matter how bad Sandy gets it won't compare.

Shutting down the financial capital of the US/World for an extended period of time will quickly trump Katrina. But it probably won't happen. Probably going to be between $50-100billion.

Even with the flooding as bad as reported, you'll be amazed at how little time trading will be interrupted. They pay people big bucks for contingency plans for this sort of thing.

(Yeah, there will be disruption and slowdowns and people who can't get to work, etc... but I think most of the finance will be back and running in a couple of days.)
