Things didn't look bad around my house - hardly ant branches down, not enough rain to flood any of the rivers and creeks. Then I drove around the area and saw trees down everywhere, utility poles snapped in half, and much more widespread power outages than after Irene. Any open gas station had 100 or more people lined up.

Gawker Media's full sites are still down today, they autodirect to some s**tty tumblr feed instead. Probably the best tasting lemonade to come out of this mess.

Another plus: new car sales are going to jump 500% on the eastern seaboard in November.

how much money do you get back from insurance for a flood damaged car? is it the full price?

$0

Act of God is not covered, so any natural disaster they wont cover... At least that's what I heard. Maybe people in storm prone areas can get the coverage. The car is one thing, but what sucks is the damage done to houses. Pretty much have to start over. I wonder if banks wave the mortgage for destroyed houses or if people are stuck paying it + the new house. I'm just glad I'm not in that situation, but I feel sorry for those who are.

Pretty sure that's false. Comprehensive auto insurance should cover flood/tree damage.

Homeowner's policies are different, and usually don't cover flood damage unless you're eligible to purchase that type of coverage.

Seriously? then people that left their cars are street level are just plain dumb. I would have high tailed it in my car to higher ground or out of the flood zone.

Uh, no. Depends on your policy I'm sure, but that's exactly what comprehensive is for. It covers "everything else." Fire, flood, theft, stupid deer jumping out and nailing you, etc. That's why it is called "comprehensive." Of course, if you only had liability then they won't give you a penny.

Yeah, that's not true. Any comprehensive auto insurance policy will cover you for flood/tree damage.

It's interesting that so many submerged cars headlights are on. I'm assuming that the cars weren't abandoned like that, so the water must be shorting the headlight relays and causing them to activate. I wouldn't think that would happen so often .. interesting.

I guess being abandoned like that makes sense.. driving, water gets too deep, you stall, or say F it and bail with your headlights still on. Shrug. Interesting either way.

Seems to depend, some companies do, some don't. Just googled real quick. I thought it was all that did not though.

But guess it seems to depend on the insurance company.

Did you read any of those links? The first is from the Phillippines (doesn't apply here). The second and third debunk your own claim.
