PSE&G restored 900k+ customers Wednesday. JCP&L only restored 160k, they said they had to deal with transmission issues before localized repairs. They restored 1000 out of 6000 in my town. I have high hopes that I'll have power back tomorrow. I jealously drove through PSE&G territory today.

The lines at gas stations are insane. I think most people thought they could avoid the lines by going at night. Sucks for them, lines were worse at night.

JCP&L is up to 370k out of 1.2M. Customers are getting pissed on twitter. I trust that they're doing the work in the order that makes sense. 25% restored in my town, mostly near the highways.

Every Hurricane, people refuse to leave and complain about food, water, heat, electricity, etc.

I have almost 10,000 industrial high power NiMH "D" cell batteries sitting in my shop. I could keep my cellphone and netbook running for weeks in the event of an emergency.

If your gonna stay against advise to leave at least prepare yourself for something, 2 days in and the squawking started, It's unclear if those who were upset were in a mandatory evacuation zone or not, in any event though not having 2 days worth of food knowing that beast is bearing down on you is just dumb, can you spring for a couple cans of Dinty Moore to get ready??..

Woah that's a lot of batteries. You should try hooking them up in series for some serious fun. Actually maybe in groups of like 10 parallel for an extra amp kick.

I just saw on the news that one of the subway systems of NYC could be out for months. Traffic is going to be horrible for a long time in NYC.

That might be jumping to conclusions. You're ignoring that a lot of people's apartments were *under water.* Should they have stocked up on Scuba supplies to be able to swim in and get that food out? Or should they have hid it in a tree, displacing the nuts stored by the squirrels?

I guess it was good that this wasn't a really strong hurricane like a Cat 4 or 5.
See Dave's post. Google "Integrated Kinetic Energy" and see what it says about hurricanes. There are a lot of things wrong with the Saffir Simpson scale that's based solely on sustained wind speeds at the surface.

Marone said workers have been yelled at and have had eggs thrown at their trucks. He said one of the workers who was harassed is a lifelong Bridgeport resident who was working to restore power in his own city.

http://blog.ctnews.com/sandy/2012/11/01/ui-says-workers-are-being-harassed/

They should just leave the power off.

Wow, wtf is wrong with people. These workers are struggling to keep up with this mammoth task and all people can do is harass them. It's disgusting that some people act like this.

Such bullshit. They should put up a sign that says "Let us do or work in peace or we leave to work in a less hostile site."

Fucking retards.

From what I understand, gas is only a problem due to perceived scarcity.

Tell that to the mile long line of cars that's been waiting for gas since 1am at one of the few stations that's been open.

Almost got into a fight with someone on that line because the line was blocking an intersection I needed to get through. I was merely asking people to move up and back a bit so I could get through, and the immediate reaction is that I'm trying to take their place in line or something, man I dont even know.....he just got all crazy on me like I've been here for hours, blah blah blah....everyone is so on edge.

Seen a few stoplights come back on over the past few days, so the work is slowly getting done, but no one I personally know has gotten back power yet. And it's going to be really, really cold tonight.

The absolute worst are the people who can't comprehend why this is happening, just looking for someone to blame, as if the hurricanes are no big deal. Next in line are the armchair officials, who have all the answers, if only they were put in charge.

People are really beginning to lose their shit and act stupid around here, I wish people would just calm the fuck down.

That actually sums up why America is in such a mess. People are so incredibly ignorant they are actually hurting themselves.

They dont know why things happen. They dont understand how to fix them. They dont know who is supposed to fix them. And they blame the wrong people for either damage or lack of damage control.

You really want to be pissed, go about a week without power when by day 2 power is up about 3 blocks away. Damn bastards on the hospital grid!
Hotel is still without power outside Philly;
Yet a casino that is 1 block away, on the other side of the street, stopped using their generators yesterday afternoon and is back on the grid.

Another cold shower this AM.

Most people have the mentality of a pile of rocks.

Fuel exists; just is inaccessible.

Yup. The problem is there's a lot of stations with gas and no power to pump it. Then a few stations with power that have long since pumped all their gas. The transportation situation isn't making it easy for the gas trucks to bring fresh fuel in. And then you've got a ton more people on the road since public transport is still mostly down. You've also got a lot of people who want that gas for generators....that's what's causing a lot of the fights. People in cars think they deserve it more, people with jugs dont feel they need to wait in the line with the cars. People come to fill up their truck and also five 10 gallon jugs in their bed - there's no rationing or anything, so everyone is trying to hoard as much as they can. The lines are so outrageous that people don't even know where the end is, since they cross multiple intersections, which further snarls up traffic - there are some one lane roads that are completely blocked by the line. And of course people are running out of gas while waiting in the line, or constantly needing jumps because the batteries can't handle so many stops and starts. It's just so many factors that exacerbate each other, it's just total fucking chaos.

Most gas stations that are open have a police presence at this point to keep it from devolving into total anarchy.

Yea, it was talked about by the forecasters before it hit, they were warning people over and over " ignore the cat 1 rating of this system, this will be much worse" which proved to be true by the lowest barometric pressure ever recorded occurred coupled with record high tides . If your dwelling is in this kind of jeopardy you must (if possible) make plans to haul ass as *under water* is generally asynchronous with "uninhabitable".

Sounds like FL 2004, people would get pissed as they watched those trucks with 5-10 cans in the bed sucking the fuel dry wasting the 3 hours you have been waiting trying to buy some. Best bet is to convert a regular Briggs genny to run off NG, then if your car is full your OK, NG is available in front of my home, I wonder if I bought a NG dryer if the gas co. would spring to run the line up from the street..
