ill survive, ive got water, + no food will speed of some weight loss

Umm, starvation isnt nearly as cool as it sounds. You should have some basic rations like MRE's or at least hard tack. Vitamins too since you may not get balanced meals.

Areas near me that got hit hard last year in Irene are already closing schools tomorrow and Tuesday. There are some serious precautions going on with this storm. It will be interesting to see if it really is as bad as everyone is assuming it will be.

I'm still thinking it's going to be a dud, at least in upstate.

University of Connecticut has canceled all classes for tomorrow. Hopefully, campus doesn't lose power (for long). CL&P had an awful response last year.

Probably won't happen. However, SEPTA is stopping all service at 12:30am so I'll be working from home tomorrow.

im not sure you understand anything dave

@ DocP - are people really going nuts down where you are? i thought you posted about there being no candle oil or something. i just went to the store and it was calm and normal just like any other sunday evening

Not really. Stores were a little busier than normal today, but most things weren't selling out. I chatted with the neighbors for a little bit this evening; they've got plenty of gas for their generator, ditto we do too. We did get some groceries though - other than a lot of staples, and a full freezer, we didn't have a lot of variety of food. We generally just either stop at the grocery store to pick out dinner each night, else go to a restaurant.

Most likely I will be driving to work tomm. All people in valley forge will be at work tomm anyway. I leave early to beat traffic anyway so I dont think I will have issues.

yeah... I'm getting a little judge-y when my friends in upstate NY or out in the mountains in PA are freaking out.

my worst case scenario is a day without power. not really even expecting that much, although cable/internet lines going out wouldn't surprise me.

that said, if I lived on the waterfront I'd probably be looking for higher ground to park my car on.

How are you guys feeling about the storm there? I'm the only one in my family that lives away. My dad doesn't appear to be taking it too seriously, but I know he did clean the yard up and they have food/water to last a while. My sister "isn't buying the hype" and is staying home, no idea if she has any supplies. My one grandma is in a nursing home, and this is the one time I feel good about her being there (she doesn't want to move to Maine to live with us). My other is staying home and doesn't give a shit.

I'm hoping for you guys that the winds aren't as bad as forecasted, or at least, no trees come down on homes. I think we can all do ok without power for a bit, but a hole in the roof would suck.

We're not expecting much, but I ended up going to get a portable generator anyway. Tomorrow morning I need to go fill my gas jugs and that's about it. Unfortunately, I don't have a cord to backfeed the dryer outlet, so I'll just be running the 120V outlets in on an extension cord if we need it.

I just heard the nyse plans to be open regular hours. What a bunch of vain dipsh!ts. Looking forward to their response when a broker gets a tree limb thru his head on the way to work.

Absolutely vicious. Take care of yourselves, you guys.

I'm curious at how most of them will get into work with the trains/subway/ferries shutdown.

GMU is closed, and pretty much all the other schools in NOVA.

That sucks. If we have classes on Wed then I got a test and wont get a review day.

Also you guys are acting like its the end of the world. Chill out.

People who stupidly choose not to respect these storms are the people who die in these storms. Making sensible preparations that you hope will be unnecessary is not an overreaction.

Ignore him, he's an ignorant child raised by the suburbs. He has no clue how brutal mother nature can be, much less how horrible humans can be to each other.

Unfortunately, many people have no settings between "Do nothing" and "Panic wildly and do irrational things that don't actually help your situation".

And seeing how ridiculous the people in category 2 are acting pushes a lot of people into category 1.

Nobody will get to work in NYC as all MTA services are shut down (since 7pm today). I doubt any sane company will require people to come in, even if you lived a block away (or get sued up the ass).

Very confused as to why schools are closing up here in Boston.
All we have so far is a high wind warning starting at 2:00pm with 30-40mph winds gusts up to 60. I guess if the 60mph gusts are frequent there could be a lot of issues.
