I'm not sure you can say it isn't a hurricane right now. Still seems to have tropical characteristics.

I'm thinking landfall right around Atlantic City at about midnight.

Man It picked up power overnight , Back @ hurricane force and is going to hit land as a Hurricane. Atlantic City LOL at the crazy.

question for the ATOT experts... in the event of a power outage, how do you decide whether you should leave your freezer closed and hope for the best, versus taking it all out and cooking any frozen meat/veggies before they spoil?

The food won't go bad instantly. I'd keep it shut. After ~8 hours with no power, I'd probably consider starting to use some stuff.

If meat was frozen though it will still last some time, because even if it thaws, it will still be cold.

If it's the freezer on top of the fridge, you have a few hours. Keep it closed.

If it's a deep freeze, insulate it as well as you can, and you might get a couple of days.

In Pittsburgh it been raining all day since Sunday. It has been a slow rain only so nothing to bad. Last week they were calling for snow it went from 81 last week to 42. Now they are calling for 2 to 4 inches of rain.

Its bad here. I have three pumps in the basement and they can't keep up with the tide rising and pushing water into the floor and walls. I am worried about the furnace getting flooded. This storm is living up to its billing. It was not all hype. It will be much worse later around midnight. I fear the worst.

Ugh, that flooding business sounds like a nightmare. I'm far from the coast and pretty high up so I'm not worried about that really. Even power outages I'm not to terrified of, I could just go to my folks if it was an extended one. I'd like to put a generator switch in but there just haven't been funds available this year.

I just don't want a tree to fall on my house. I have insurance of course but what a pain in the ass that could turn into. Fortunately 70 mph gusts are not all that unusual at my house so there shouldn't be many trees that can't handle the winds left standing to begin with.

Currently in NYC, the rain is minimal.

I even see quite a handful of people walking about without umbrella.

Honestly, if it weren't for all the news at other places, it's rather uneventful here. It even totally stopped raining 10am-noon.

In SE Pennsylvania (Bucks County, ~30 miles north of Philly). The rain is getting a little harder and the wind has definitely picked up; it's not very consistent, but the gusts are getting a pretty hard. Looking a lot like the first portion of Irene right now IMO.
