No, was in Winsconsin for a while as well.

Californians go into their bunkers after a single drop of rain falls.

If it ever snowed heavily in Louisiana...I don't know what would happen. How would they get to work if they can't use their swamp boats?

Last time it snowed in New Orleans a few years ago (an inch or two of snow), the entire city shut down.

New Orleans can only be accessed by bridge, and all of them were closed because there was not enough salt.

But we feel for everyone up there. Hopefully power outages are the worst of the damage.

I can't wait to see people's thoughts when they see the kind of storm surge this system will bring in where ever it directly hits.

People are passing this off to lightly.

Can someone tell me if living in a big apartment complex is less susceptible to a power outage?

I live in a 'village' of huge high rises (7 buildings of 30~ floors each, 300 units per), all managed by one property company. Is this better because they have better infrastructure or protection?

I'm not sure how much longer I'll have power. Just built myself a nice little led lamp to use up some of these AAA batteries I have.

I just watched everyone on my office communicator drop offline. Strange that I'm still on and connected.

Heard today the insurance industry expects the economic impact of the storm to be $10-$20 billion in damage, about half of that being insured losses.

Power feeds are usually underground.
Less susceptible to the downed wire syndrome.

Exactly. Good luck with no power for a week.

As long as the vaults don't flood out and the substation feeding you is working being in a building is superior. It's also likely to get fixed sooner if it fails.

Loud grounding noises here. Power is out and fire truck arrived at my apartments.

Getting REALLY windy here in Connecticut now, I'd guess sustained at 40-45 with gusts well past 70. A huge gust just took down about half of one of my neighbors trees.

Wow, Atlantic City is just getting devoured. No word yet on how many prostitutes, pimps and drug dealers are expected to get swept out to sea.

Heh, I remember living in NH when hurricane Bob hit. Out here in CO, people freak out if there is more than 1/2' of snow on the ground. (facepalm)

If we got a storm like this out here, Colorado Springs would likely become the Thunder Dome.
