For those in NY, stay safe... If the hurricane itself actually hits it will be an unimaginable disaster. All those high rise buildings... I just can't imagine the scale of destruction. Hopefully it wont hit or it will weaken by the time it gets there though.

Not in NY, but honestly they keep talking about "the worst is coming soon". Most we've had here in inland Delaware is gusts of 40 mph and heavy rain. Oh wup-dee-do. Haven't even lost power yet. I bought a week's worth of food and water for this?

I'm 6 hours inland from the city. Lights have flickered here half a dozen times already; decently strong gusts.

Damn it... the generator is heavy. I didn't want to have to carry it from the garage to the porch.

the weatherman is now saying we avoided the rain and just have to worry about the wind. He sounds disappointed.

I'm half a mile from NYC, it's boring as hell now. Barely any rain or wind.

Jackson Heights.

The winds are incredibly strong. Sandy ain't no joke

I'm jealous. Nothing here in The Bronx but a few gusts.

I just realized all of the hype is for people along the water, not inland areas. I wish they would have been more upfront about it.

You are on the southern side of circulation with everything go out to sea, not in.

This is what happens when you have people like you that have never experienced a Hurricane.

This is the first Hurricane to make Landfall on New Jersey shore in over 100 years.

This. I'm sure the coastline is getting bent over, but check this out:

That implies a lot more than coastal damage.

I would be too. Yet another overhyped story about a small storm. Certainly some people were affected, but instead of trying to scare everyone, they should have just warned people in areas near water.

They need to stop crying wolf.

The center of the hurricane is due to pass within 10 miles of me. *shrug* I expected more than a bad rain storm and some sporadically/lightly flooded roads, which is what we have so far.

Good grief, people. This was never going to be a category 4 or 5 to begin with. That's been known and been said for days. It does poes a risk for low lying coastal areas that are susceptible to flooding (including parts of significantly populated areas such as NYC), as well as areas that will receive significant rain in a short amount of time (inland).

People expecting some apocylptic storm keep whining that it's disappointing. It wasn't going to be the end of the world, despite what your local news station told you. It doesn't mean it's not a serious storm.

Just got a 'EUREKA' moment and decided to design and build an electric powered generator. The next time we have a massive storm like this, I will be sitting pretty in my McMansion with a few of my creations hooked up to ride out the storm.

My sister is in the SE Ohio area. I will call her now. Looks like she will be getting some of the storm.

Does it need to be plugged in the wall to work? As long as it's also hooked up to a grid tie inverter you should be fine.

Gusts of over 60mph. The rain is minimal but the wind is srsbzns. I hear windows cracking, glass being strewn about in my backyard.

My lights have been flickering a few times....

I've noticed that as well
