So far talking heads are only talking about the Sandy damage to Coastal areas. When Sandy moves well inland, and joins the other two storms, we can only wonder how bad the damage will be hundreds and maybe a thousand miles inland. Because Sandy is pushing so much warm and moisture laden air ahead of it, about to hit two other storm systems full of cold air, the resultant rain and then snow may make the coastal damage look inconsequential.

Not likely. Storms are fed by moisture and once over land, the system will lose most of its punch pretty quickly. There will be rain and wind and snow for a couple of days, but the system will weaken steadily from here on out.

Gale warning for multiple great lakes. Lake Huron to have up to 25ft waves(!!), lake Erie up to 16ft waves.
Locally in metro Detroit we just have high wind advisory. Gusts up to 55mph expected. Can't imagine what it must be like in parts of NJ and NYC.

Yep. If you remember Irene, there was TONS of flooding in upstate New York.

Some of my friends that live in the East Village lost power because. They also had their hot water cut off this morning since their building is heated by ConEd steam from the same plant (and that was shut off to protect the pipes from the storm surge)

Just got out of a meeting. There's going to be scads of utility workers and equipment coming from all over the country. Probably 500 trucks alone between California and Oregon.

There's already scores of trucks and crews camped out in various areas not far west of the storm. Seen quite a few photos (from PA I think). That said, I'm sure it won't be anywhere close to enough to to cover the immense number of outages needing recovery.

Interesting how after that thing melted down and the lights over there went out how power must have been rerouted since most of those lights came back on again.

It won't even get close. Katrina practically leveled New Orleans; no matter how bad Sandy gets it won't compare.

I'm pretty sure this is a troll post, but just in case it isn't, I said HARDEST HIT; yes some of the Gulf Coast was affected, but the HARDEST HIT was New Orleans. Whereas this storm scraped the ENTIRE EASTERN SEABOARD, and still just the beginning of it.
