Hurricane Wilma Thread

900,000 without power and some how i wound up being one of the 4,000 with power. It pays to have a fpl worker living on your street, and side of your street. I think im the only street in my city with power.

I said get into central gulf, it got far enough in to pick up the loop current.

please do. i'm glad you posted. i specifically was wondering how you were doing!

according to FPL, my folks' house in hollywood won't have power restored until november 15. my mother is in new york at this time, but my father is home in florida -- without power, and i suppose without perishable food given that it's probably all icky by now.

my mother is postponing her flight back to florida (the flight is at 1pm tomorrow), and my sister, who was also in NY and is in high school, is probably going to have her classes cancelled (she goes to private school in north dade). i checked her school's website and called their information hotline, but they don't mention anything about classes, so who really knows what's going on there.

my dad said he'll take pictures of the damage with his d70 for my enjoyment

obviously. if you divide the gulf of mexico into thirds, central gulf COAST would be new orleans. now the central GULF of Mexico, I'd say it made it close to that. the Yucatan sticks into the GOM. I guess it just a matter of semantics. It definitely did not come anywhere near any central gulf COAST in the US

Wow what an adventure that was!!! Just got my power restored!! Wilma's eyewall passed around 30 miles from my house I actually faired pretty good compared to people who live in nearby communities... I had sustained winds in the 90's with gusts upwards of 120-125mph for roughly 3 hours. Boy am I glad this storm was a mover when it got here!!

Glad you guys are OK. How far are you from Estero? That's where my cousin is.

Yes it's a surge by definition. 1' of tidal flooding is a surge. The fence just about disappears in that video. Any houses with five feet of water outside would be seriously damaged.

damn hurricane was rough...my neighborhood looks like a warzone...I'm in Hollywood.

Estero is about 10 miles SW of me. the estero/Bonita Area got it pretty good too...

How bad is it in Hollywood, FL ?

I heard a Motel 6 there had half of its roof come off and a tree fly through the lobby windows.
