Alpha is forming right behind it.

Also looks like Wilma may be heading a lot further west and norththan they thought.

My track is still holding.

There is still a chance the Jet stream will hook and allow Wilma even further west.

Yep

Hurricane Wilma just doesn't want to make landfall on any huge landmass it doesn't seem.

Shes so far sideswiping it right on the edge of her western eyewall.

The small island is about to get the southern part of the eyewall now.

She is still moving very slowly

I hope to hell it misses Naples, or at least slows down some. That's where my family lives. They don't have any hurricane shutters on the house. If it's more than cat 2 or so we're fvcked.

I hope so too.

I wish it would of just died in the ocean.

Cancun has been getting pounded for a long while now.

Flooding of biblical proportions now likely, similar to Mitch when it hit Guatelemala in 1998.

8PM Advisory

WILMA IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE 10 TO 20 INCHES OF RAIN THROUGH
SUNDAY ACROSS PORTIONS OF WESTERN CUBA AND THE YUCATAN PENINSULA...
WITH ISOLATED AMOUNTS OF 40 INCHES POSSIBLE.

Hurricane Mitch Info

May not be much of a cane when it gets to FL.

This is where you could be wrong.

Wilma hasn't even made landfall on the huge Mexico landmass. She doesn't seem to want to and most of her eyewall and all of her eye is still over water. Ok some of the eye is on the small island but that doesn't effect it as much as the huge landmass as Mexico would.

I believe she will continue to sideswipe her western eyewall.

She may even be stalled with her western part of her eyewall over Cancun as she is stalled right now

Which would be very bad for Cancun and I hope its not the case. Not saying it is though. Just say may be.

If she only sideswipes Mexico, like I am thinking, she could easily be a Cat. 3 when she hits again.

  • * If it stays near the tip of Yucatan too long, it will weaken, not as much as if it had gone well inland.
  • * The large trough coming down into the Southeast and Nrn Gulf this weekend has a lot of cold dry air in the low levels with it.
  • * Shear associated with the trough should weaken it steadily as well.

My gut says category 1 when it hits SW FL. More for a lack of means to remain strong. Do you have a link to current SSTs over the gulf? Really warm water (> 85F) west of the Keys would make me change my mind.

Wilma looks like she could be stalled now right off the shore

She hasn't made landfall on Mexico yet totally. A good 60 to 70% of her is in the warm water still and will easily keep her at least a Cat. 3 and maybe let her even hold her own at a steady Cat. 4.

Not good.

it is weaking. even if the entire eye is not over land, part of it is, and the entire area of circulation is interacting with land. on the latest visisble infrared you can see it is weaking, the areas of deep red and oranges is shrinking on the western area if circulation. the water temps off of florida are about 80-83f right now. if it moves fast enough with the trough that is expected to pick it up, it simply may not have the time to regenerate

After talking to several people here in Cancun via the net I have some new information.

It seems the worst of the storm will be here from 3 to 5AM local time when we can expect to see waves up to 8 meters high hitting the shoreline. Several hotels have been reported to be severally damaged, and the Lagoon is now meeting the ocean in various parts of the hotel zone.

I have been asked to record the sounds from inside the apartment, and I am trying to do that now. I will see if I can post something soon.

Thanks once again to everyone for your emails, thoughts, prayers, etc., they are very welcomed.

More to come....
