Prices fluctuate. Sometimes it is cheaper to go through Froogle, other times it is not. Sometimes it is better to buy two 1GB single modules, other times it is cheaper to buy the 2GB kit.

Why are there never deals on DDR1 memory chips? I remember I paid a premium for DDR2 memory a year or so ago, but at that time I didn't have any PC's with PC3200 400mhz DDR ram. Now I have since bought 2 pc's that require that memory and it is more than DDR2. WTH?

supply & demand--DDR1 is no longer produced in large volumes. You will find similar high prices for even older RAMs such as PC66/100. The same goes with other components.

damn, I got this one at $120 and was thrilled. Now I am thinking of picking up another 2GB for this price. Then I'd be set for a long time with RAM. But I can't help but wonder when the price will hit bottom.

I'm in the same boat..think Vista will really benefit from another 2gb?

I think I could benifit from a little extra with very few games. But I'm trying to think a year from now. I have to think that it could use the extra RAM when games like Crysis finally come out. Plus since I'm running a x64 OS for the first time, I have a reason to go above 2GB.

Part of me wants to get it just because it is hard to believe this will get much cheaper in the next year.

I think it will recognize 4 GB, but can only allocate 2GB to any 1 program unless you are running a x64 OS. I also believe there is some tweak that can bring it up to 3GB but that is it.

Thanks MikeyLSU. So I will just keep 2GB setup then unless the new low price is too hard to resist, say like $50.

alot of people suspect middle of may... but could be end of this month
thing is if everyone had held off on buying the prices may have gotten cheaper due to manufacturer surplus/overstocks building up...

It recognizes 3.5GB and does not limit the amount of that that any 1 program can use. But yes, only a 64 bit OS will recognize/utilize 4GB of RAM.
