The Q6600 doesn't need that much bandwidth. At stock speeds, it only needs 533mhz memory. You'll be good with this stuff (the DDR2-800).

Yeah, if you don't mind dealing with the MIR, get the Crucial. It most likely won't help you now, but down the road it might have better value when you sell it, or use it with a different processor.

I may get a set just to try out. I hear a lot of good things about supertalent. so next question; just get the cl5 silver or cl4 blue for $12 more?

I really dont like rebates but sometimes they are worth it in the end and I have always had good luck with Ballistix minus the old DDR500 that would get problems or burn up.

anyways; Im in for a set of supertalent. silver or blue?

Thanks for your time

edit: still want to know if I should go silver or blue, but man ram prices are dropping fast. all the major brands have pc2-6400 ram near 50-60 after rebates

I say just get the cheaper stuff. What is the voltage for the blue stuff? If it is over 1.8v, then it is just "factory overclocked" and you can just clock up the cheaper stuff. Just earlier today I did some testing on a system. Swapped Super Talent DDR2-667 Rigid for some Patriot DDR2-800.

Super Talent @700MHz 5-5-5-15 1.85v 3DMark06 9075
Patriot @800MHz 4-4-4-12 2.20v (the "rated" specs) 3DMark06 9094

All else being equal, I just used the 1MHz RAM stepping on the 650i chipset board. I gained 19 3DMarks. Wow... not!

The other thing is the "factory overclocked" RAM wouldn't clock much higher while this Super Talent stuff and some OCZ stuff that defaults to 1.8v can clock much higher in comparison.

the blue ones are rated at 2.2v I believe. according to the supertalent site; the silver is value ram and the blue is extreme overclocking ram.

on another note; just ordered a set of ballistix pc2-6400 $55 after rebate free shipping.

I may get a silver set for my second computer and see how they are. I will be running an abit ip35-e with a e6600; im sure the silver will allow me to overclock the e6600 quite a bit. as long as I can hit 3.4ghz; I will be happy

WOOT! My prediction is almost true.
Price of the DDR2-667 2GB (2x1GB) from the 3 links as of 10/6 @ 5:50pm CT:
T6UX2GC5 $49.44
T6UX2GC5 $48.00
T6UX2GC5 $49.44

They still have the $10 MIR to drop the price lower.

This is almost making 4gb seem reasonable. Is there any actual improvement over 2gb, though, even in Vista 64?

And to think people questioned my prediction...

BTW, I like this RAM (the 667 stuff). It is really "standard" meaning boards that are picky about RAM will POST right away with this stuff. *stares at Abit IP35-E*

I might just get another 2x1gb set to up my total to 4gb.

Don't really need that much, but hey, it can't hurt?

It *should* post since it's JEDEC spec and runs DDR2-667 @ 1.8V (meaning not factory OC'd). I've never had a compatibility issue using ST ram in builds. It's actually my recommended RAM now

Snapped up another 2GB @ $46.50 + $8.85 UPS Ground shipping (using Froogle Link). Shipping is a tad high since I'm East Coast, but 2GB of JEDEC goodness is hard to pass up

Whats the overclocking like on the newer sticks running 4gb at a time? I have had two gb in my system running overclocked for a while now and just wana know if I can get the same potential from these as I did those.
