Hello all, im not exactly sure if this is the right forum for this question, although I guess it is for the more advanced...
Heres my question, under windows 2000 you can turn your basic disks into dynamic disks.
This allows you to extend volumes, like say for a spanned volume and other wonderful things.
Now is it possible to turn a hybrid dynamic disk into a pure dynamic disk? It seems as if you can not turn a disk that was once basic into a dynamic disk and then use the disk to extend the volume. Only volumes that were created on dynamic disks can be extended.
I know you can use a utility called dskprobe.exe which comes on the windows 2000 cd to remove all partition tables entries except the first type 0x42 entry. And you also need to change the single remaning type 0x42 partition table entry to describe the entire disk by changing the Ending Cylinder and Total Sectors fields. And then you need to subtract the relative sector (where the partition starts) from the Total Sectors value displayed before entering the new Total Sectors number in the partition table.
Now if youre still following me here, and I haven't tripped over my words too much, is there an easy way to do this? I managed to find very little information on this, and running the dskprobe.exe utility doesn't point out what you need to change and where it is, it is just a basic hex program..
