Well, if we're going to switch away from chains on the chainsaws, and talk about cutters the size of 5 gallon buckets, then THIS "circular saw" beats them all. So big, they don't even waste time with trees - it'd just cut out the entire tree with one tooth.

I remember seeing the famous pix of that machine a while ago.
I actually had a nightmare about that machine where Hitler himself built one but it was a laminating machine and he was using it to compress and preserve humans. It was not working well at all and would frequently crash. I was drafted as a senior engineer to abate these issues and was told if I refused I would be a test subject. I decided to "make a run for it", removed all my clothes and jumped overboard into the ocean. At this time I was abruptly awaken from a water splash from the crew pool and ran frantically until I realized it was just a nightmare. Luckily those don't happen too often!

That is child's play compared to the saws I work with on a dailey basis.

A higher rpm chainsaw will make a smoother cut as the blades take away only a small piece of material with each swipe instead of fewer larger ones.

Doesn't this also depend on your depth gauge setting too?

Why? Wouldn't it just depend on the torque peak of the motor used?

No, a chainsaw relies on speed or it will get stuck very fast. Ever used a multitool, like a Dremel? Then you know how that works, it works by having low torque and excessive rpm, as long as you don't apply to much pressure it will do fine.

A slow chain saw is a recepie for disaster, you'd have to force it in place instead of it just removing anything that gets near it without you having to push on it more than lightly.

Yes that's a good comparison. A chain saw will stall (max torque of clutch) if the chain is touching - dug in or even if sitting on a kerf with little pressure! If it's free and whirring at WOT quick plunging goes assuming proper sharpening/depth gauges and sufficient engine displacement allow such operation.

I've cut a lot of pipe, that was slow, but it's the first time I've seen pipe cut without lot of sparks and fire. Would be good in an oil refinery.
