Stanley doesnt even make a good hand tool, cant believe they are trying to get into industrial tools.

Cast and ductile are two different things, doc. Ductile is as tough as steel in many respects, and would laugh at that snap cutter.

No they're not. Ductile iron is just a type of cast iron, so technically there are SOME cast irons that aren't ductile iron, but all ductile iron is cast iron.

I saw some show on History maybe where some guy would cut shit in half to see what was inside them. In one episode, he took several different chainsaws and tested them for speed (how fast to cut through a huge tree trunk).

He had an electric, gas, and hydraulic. Gas won, followed by hydraulic and then electric. I'm pretty sure they said the RPMs is king in cutting and the gas one had the highest.

My personal experience with cast iron pipe and ductile iron pipe has been that ductile is quite strong and resistant to impact fracture, whereas cast iron pipe is relatively brittle; You can accidentally drop a 18' 6" stick of 8" ductile and damage the concrete lining but I've never seen one crack or break.
Cast will not survive even a moderate drop. That is why a snap cutter like the one doc picture works so well on it. It fractures predictably.

I don't know but here's a 300HP chainsaw.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMtj4q75YqE

I remember seeing this on some odd show at 2am some years back. They worked their way up from a normal chainsaw, to a "competition" chainsaw, to a V-twin chainsaw, to a 4cyl out of a 80s Taurus chainsaw, to a V8 chainsaw. I think this is the same exact one. This has to be the tool of the devil for treehuggers - a gas sucking V8 that cuts up trees.

My wife's family were all in the logging business in northern Idaho and eastern Washington. She had a couple of uncles who were into the "hot saw competitions" every year. One ran a Yamaha 360(?) motorcycle engine for his, the other had a custom saw with a Harley Davidson engine.
Yes, there were always folks with hot saws that ran on automobile engines as well.

I would imagine making a rig powered off a large mining class excavator's hydraulics using 100GPM motors and a 15 foot bar on the end could own any chainsaw that people would hold.

Imagine a chain where the cutting chisels are the size of a five gallon pail!

Sure but you want chain speed to cut!

Underwater use! Definitely will work and unlike air tools not affected by depth!

Well it depends on what you're cutting.
In the video, it mentioned cutting steel pipe. Steel can wreak extreme havoc (depending on the grade of steel) on high speed blades. Some times, slower is better.

I'm sure one could be made with enough power to saw a desk in half. 18650 LiIon cells are quite strong. A pack with a dozen of them plus a magnequench motor would have enough torque to get the job done. USB would be just to charge it up.

Problem is someone would think it's a toy and use it someone and that person would lose an arm.

Well it depends on what you're cutting.

Use the right cutting tool for the job.

If that blade were accessible 360 degrees aka no guard it would be awesome!

Snapcutter or ratchet snapcutter would make short work of cast iron & ductile (in 1~5 seconds).

Cutoff saw or pipe cutter are way faster and more efficient than that chain saw at cutting steel/stainless steel/copper/aluminum pipes.

The only application that the chain saw have use for is cutting steel/stainless steel piping under water.

Well, if we're going to switch away from chains on the chainsaws, and talk about cutters the size of 5 gallon buckets, then THIS "circular saw" beats them all. So big, they don't even waste time with trees - it'd just cut out the entire tree with one tooth.

Heh...yeah, I've seen some of those up close...(not the ones in Germany, but there used to be some monsters (for the time) working here in the USA.)
