Question Hyped for the 9070XT

I said I wasn't going to participate in this GPU generation (to myself) but, I am getting an itch with the 9070XT for some reason.

I am glad I didn't get a NVidia 5000 series (missing rops, burning cables, etc.)

I understand everyone says DLSS and RT, and whatever else (and I am sure there are some who use CUDA cores for more than gaming)

It has been a while since I mained (WoW reference) an AMD card.

I play at 1440p, with Medium to High settings based upon the game I am playing.

I also split time dual booting with Linux, and while I have no issue getting the 4070 under Linux, I am tired of the closed drivers, and slower Linux development that I am given.

Anyone like me? Using an AMD 7900XT or such that doesn't care about DLSS, Upscaling, or Raytracing? That thinks most Video Games at Medium and High (Ultra is too loud) is more than adequate for recreational gaming?

Anyone have any more information on this current 9070 line from AMD ?

Danke!

I doubt it will be worth the upgrade since you already have a 7900XT. Especially given your gaming requirements. Pricing and availability on the new cards are likely to be volatile for some time after launch. Scalpers will almost certainly spoil the party.

The RX 9070 is close enough in TDP to my 3060Ti... upgrading would be very tempting.
Next step is figuring out the physical dimensions and seeing if there's room in my case.

I mean plenty of people will sell or move on their old card for a new one for laughs and giggles.

If you're interested in the tech and can find one for a reasonable price after launch... Why not?

If there really is supply around the $650 price point, you could sell your 7900xt for $400-500 easy and pay the difference.

Market is super hungry for cards right now, so no guarantee that anything is actually vailable for a while.

I really don't think this generation will be worth the upgrade over a 7900XT.

In fact, unless RDNA4 brings some big surprises there's a good chance the upgrade isn't worth it for most people with a 6800XT and 6900XT.
Which is a bit depressing, to be honest.

Yea I think I'm all set with graphics cards for awhile... market needs to chill out but I don't see that happening in the near future.

The last brand-new card I bought (not refurb or open box) was a 6900XT in June or July of 2022; only because it was a couple hundred bucks off and had a $30 MiR rebate iirc. Was still over $1,000 and I'm not sure I put enough hours on the card to justify the cost tbch.

I guess raster will be somewhere between the 7900xt and xtx and hopefully rt somewhat beyond the xtx. It seemed set to replace the 7800xt, 7900gre and 7900xt in the positioning slide (from AMD to the press pre CES as I recall). No game I play currently makes use of RT to a significant degree and only BG3 supports upscaling, which my 7900xt doesn't really need at 4k.

Vs 6800xt and 6900xt though I expect a more significant uplift.

I want $499. The higher it is, the more likely I'll be waiting for next gen. Nvidia is giving you a chance this gen with quirky drivers, melting power connectors and missing ROPs. Take advantage and go with BOM+$50 instead of Nvidia-$50.

Advantage of?

oh no the market does not care about that an iota.
People are just mad due to lack of supply (since Blackwell is a mess and thus had a late prod kickoff).

It's been fun seeing the hints that the techtubers and review sites have been giving off. Pretty much all of them have been obsessed with the pricing, which as I'm assuming that they have samples of the hardware and know the performance, means that its competitive performance wise.

only 1 model (and a half) at a very attractive price and package covering most uses

this is the pattern of the future, less models/choice but making more sense
