I'm building a new computer and have the i7-2700K with the Gigabyte Z68-UD3H-B motherboard. Bought the Hyper 212+ for $18 after rebate, but wanted to see if there was anything else out there people recommend?

I'll probably overclock a tiny bit, but not much

How are those water cooled setups like this one:
CORSAIR CWCH60 Hydro Series H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181015&Tpk

I don't want to overclock too much so i'm guessing something on air is probably fine.

Only worry is I've read the Hyper 212+ can block the 4th dimm ram slot one some boards.

Any feedback appreciated.

The 212+ (vanilla, not the EVO) is great in my experience. I'm using it with the included fan, and another identical fan in a push/pull setup on my sig rig. Keeping my 2500k nice and cool; 25-30 @ idle, 42-50 @ heavy gaming, 70-75 @ insane stress test.

The V6GT looks a LOT cooler, and only runs you another $20 ($28 +$12 for the 212+ and an extra fan vs. $60 for the V6GT) for slightly better cooling, but I'd only go that route if you value form over function and have a massive case with an appropriately placed window.

I have the same heatsink.

Depending on which memory you got with, it will most likely block the memory slot closest to cpu. I actually had that same gigabyte mobo before returning it for my Asus Z68 LX and on both mobos the fan does block the first memory slot.

My memory is kind of tall though. I use that g.skill sniper low volt stuff, those ram sinks are kind of high. It really only matters if you plan to go 16GB anyways. I only run 8GB, so no issues.

In the end, its not that big of an issue, you can also unlatch the fan and move it up an inch or something and it will then clear or sit on top of the memory.

Thanks guys, i'm going to maybe give it a go and get some low profile ram to be on the safer side.

Fallengod, why did you return the Gigabyte? I almost got the Asus too but at the store a few employee's and customers said they had the GB and were happy with it.

Well, if you search around, there are some threads with people discussing a plethora of cold boot loop issues when overclocking. I wanted to avoid any issue and the Asus was cheaper anyways, so I returned it and went for the asus. There have also been some noted issues with drives disappearing on gigabyte boards as well. Not sure if either issue is/has been fixed yet but, I was just playing it safe and went with the cheaper board anyways.

I think the gigabyte board is probably fine but, I didnt want to deal with any potential issues.

On the note of updating bios to latest one, gigabyte has been releasing many bios updates that supposedly solve that issue but thus far I havnt heard one that actually does fix the problem. I see still people complain about it after updating to latest bios.

Like Fallengod, I have Sniper on my GB board as well, I would have to slide the 'push' fan up about 3/8" to clear the heatsink on the RAM if I were using the #4 slot... no biggie.

If you don't have RAM yet, and you are going to use the #4 slot, go with the low-profile ram, it would solve those issues.

As far as the 212+, if you are not getting silly with your OC, it will be fine. I have my 2500k at 4.10GHz and it's fine (with reduced vCore, appropriately.)

The CM 212+ is an adequate cooler for moderate overclocks. I used one with 2 fans on my 2500K, but didn't like the large spaces between the heat pipes that have to be filled in with TIM. And no matter how much you tighten it down it still swivels a bit.

For a few bucks more the Corsair A70 is a better choice. It comes with 2 fans, less space between the heat pipes, 8mm heat pipes vs 6mm for the 212+, and a very secure mounting bracket.

With my system it also performed a few degrees better than the 212+.

It's available from NE now for $24.99 AR shipped.

Extracted from PC Gamer's PC Builder's Bible 2011 Edition

"That's why we've opted to go with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus, which is the most effective and easily approachable cooler on the market."

"Heatsink Pipes: The Hyper 212 Plus features eight total copper pipes that take all their heat up to the aluminum fins, keeping everything nice and cool at the bottom"

They installed the Hyper 212 Plus in a pc that has the following:
-NZXT Phantom
-Intel Core i7-2600k 3.4GHz
-Asus P8P67
-Corsair XMS 8GB DDR3
-Asus GeForce ENGTX570
-Samsung SH-S223
-Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB
-Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
-Corsair CMPSU-850TX
All of that into a $1524 rig. At the end of the article it says "Your new pc! Feed it some Crysis 2 to keep it happy!"

Also reports of reviews stating that it has very efficient cooling and being able to keep an AMD1090T at 20 degrees celcius at idle and 35 degrees celcius at full load.

I am getting the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus very soon along with some other things stated in one of my previous threads. Hope this helps!

I went from stock intel cooler to Corsair H80 to the Hyper 212.
Asus P8Z68-V pro
Intel 2600k
Antec 1100 case. (5 fans installed. 2-120mm blowing in across drive bays.
1-120mm backside upper blowing out. 1-200mm top rear -approx 4in above hyper 212- blowing out. 1-120mm on right side door - blowing in at rear of motherboard/CPU)

Got rid of the H80 as i found it to be too noisy for my liking.
The stock Intel cooler gave me 25c-30c idle
the H80 gave me 16c to 20c idle.
the Hyper 212 gives me 17c to 20c idle. and around 35c after several hours of Star Wars TOR.
Temps measured using the ASUS suite utility. so not sure how accurate that is.
