:shocked: To the Moderator: You should know that the above post is in clear violation of U.S. Copyright law. I'm not joking. I read a case in my copyright law class that dealt with exactly this issue.

THe point is that its a copyright violation and beleive it or not, companies do sue over this. I like anandtech.com and do not want to see them embroiled in copyright litigation. There is a reason all of the tech news that comes in on this site is linked to and not quoted directly. That reason is copyright law and people who sue for the unauthorized reproduction of freely available material!

this is directly from the terms and consditions of the new scientist website:

1. Licence
Authorised Users and Subscribers may use the Service and the Materials that appear on it from time to time for their own private or business research, and for this purpose may:

* display the Materials on screen;

* make printouts of items included in the Materials using the printing commands contained in the Service; and

* download and store in machine readable a single copy of insubstantial portions of the Materials primarily for one person's exclusive use.

2. Restrictions on Use
Authorised Users and Subscribers may not:

* make multiple printouts or copies of Materials for distribution to Unauthorised Persons;

* re-sell the Service or any part of the Materials to others;

* make the Service or any Materials available to Unauthorised Persons on a local area network, a wide area network or on any intranet or extranet;

* abstract, download, store, reproduce, transmit, display, copy, distribute or use the Materials other than as permitted by paragraph 1 above;

* decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer any of the software programmes, databases or other systems used by RBI to provide the Service; or

* use the Service, or any of the facilities available on the Service, for any illegal purpose nor send or post or allow any posting of information which is defamatory or obscene or which violates the legal rights of others, nor use the Service to send any unsolicited promotional or advertising material or any volume messages which may interfere with the provision of the Service or the use of the Service by others.

5. Intellectual PR
* All intellectual property rights and other rights in the Service and Materials (in both machine readable and printed form) belong to RBI or their third party licensors. Authorised Users and Subscribers acquire no proprietary interest in the Service or Materials and except as expressly permitted by these terms and conditions and may not use the Service or the Materials in any way that infringes the intellectual property rights in them.

* Authorised Users and Subscribers may not obscure or remove any copyright notices that appear on Materials printed from the Service.

Thanks tetado. I appreciate that you wanted to discuss hyperspace and not copyright law. But after reading several cases where magazine and newspaper companies sued the pants off of websites just like anandtech for copying the entire text of their articles, I think my paranoia was justified. <patentman steps off his high horse re: copyright law>

people like you and others is why we have such a litigious society.

Can we please get back to the topic at hand?

It isn't very fair to attack him because he makes the law knowen. That's like attacking a police man for letting you off even though you were speeding. He warned you, you know the rules, you fixed the problem; so there is no need to gripe.

Sorry, this was not the topic at hand but I'll comment on hyper-space as soon as I get home from my commute from work.

Retract your post. You don't have your real name posted in a publicly accessible profile, and you're annoying the OP.

Link to law

If you're gonna nitpick, make sure you got your sh!t straight.

hyperspace propulsion will never work until the constant of the copyright dimension will be settled

I don't know if anyone here is capable of analyzing the possibilities that such a device is, at least theoretically, possible. That said, my inclination is that it's got a few flaws in it. There's been minimal peer review. Even now, when a few physicists have interest in it, why aren't they publishing peer reviewed articles?

And, for what it's worth, I agree with Patentman completely about copyright violations. They happen sooooo frequently here that no one seems to give it a second thought. Heck, half the time, the OP even quotes the part that says "you may not copy this and make it available anywhere else without the author's express written consent." (Now, I've gotta hurry and change my profile, in case I'm annoying someone for being off topic in my second paragraph.)

I agree with Roger Lenard, we need a more perspicacious introduction to the mathematics...actually a more perspicacious introduction to the theories behind the mathematics would be better for me.

Seriously though, if you believe that Burkhard Heim developed a mass theorem which predicts the mass of fundamental particles far better than had been done previous, you must believe he probably has (rather, had when he was alive) a handle on something important. Who can tell where this will lead?

Yeah I've read about Heim-<something> theory. It sounds interesting but I haven't read much of it. I found their paper and want to read it, but it was at one of those pay sites.

This makes me ever more want to switch from cs to physics. As much as I'm very interested, I'm completely clueless.
