Newegg has the Kingston Hyperx 512MB PC2700 memory back in stock. It is the faster timing model as well (2-2-2-5) instead of the slower stuff listed at googlegear.

IMO memory won't go much lower so this is a hot deal in my book.

EDIT: Googlegear lists the timings at 2-4-4-8-1T (CAS 2), Newegg lists the timings at 2-2-2-5-1T (CAS 2) Check the article linked below to decide if you think Kingston changed their timings or not.

read his post pothead. I'd MUCH MUCH rather pay 2 more dollars and get the faster timing stuff.

Normal pc2700 is $62, hyperX is $73 shipped

How about reading your own post.

"333MHz settings: 2-4-4-8-1T (CAS Latency 2)"

The timings are different...that's what the other guy was saying and what the original poster pointed out initially.

Maybe you should cut down a little on the pot...

He is confused, but I am pretty sure that Kingston HyperX pc2700 only comes in one speed anyway. I will bet that Newegg or Googlegear simply has the speeds listed wrong, because I think they are exactly the same thing....

Yep, you are correct. I guess this stuff at Newegg is the new stuff then. I only wish someone had a deal on some pc3200 though. I am dying to try it out, but it is so expensive......

Summary: get the stuff at newegg, because it is uncertian whether or not googlegear has the new stock in.

Hi all!

I'm in the market to get a 512MB module and was wondering, does Kingston honor it's lifetime warranty when you buy the memory through third parties? I've heard that Crucial will not, only buying direct from them will get the warranty. Is this true, or just rumour?

I tried calling Googlegear. You know, be a nice guy, tell them something may be wrong that puts them at a disadvantage.

The person on the phone was very nice and very useless. Comments to the effect that their information comes from the manufacturer and that they update often so this must be what they have. She wasn't even interested in hearing that only the Hyper X parts were at issue. "I'll tell purchasing to check the whole Kingston line." she said. I'm sure she is very popular there.

And she will probably wonder why her company bonus is not as big as it could be at the end of the year! I would have no choice but to go with Newegg and I like Googlegear!

Great thread guys and gals. Thanks for the info. Got most of the pieces for my next box. Heading for an AMD XP2100+ in an Epox 8rda+. Want two 512 mem modules but the budget wants only half the cost! May have to wait a few weeks and meet in the middle!

IS there a program out there that can read what timings are in the SPD chip on the rams to verify if Kingston changed the timings on the hyperx line?
Any links anyone?

Just set your bios Dram setting to auto, and check what the settings are. It will automatically set the ram timings to what is programmed on the SPD.....

If u look at the kingston site, they had to releases of the memory, Once in 2002, one in 2003, 2003 is the faster model, but the specs that google gear gives does not correlate with any of the releases.

I emailed kingston about this and they said Googlegear specs were wrong

Exactly.

Last week I ordered some HyperX 3000s from both venders after Newegg ran out while partially filling my cart. The products are the same; appearing in the (GA-8INXP) BIOS as 2 3 3 6. Four of them populating both channels scored ~3711 in Sandra 2003 at 2 2 2 5, and a little lower at 2 2 2 6 and 2 2 2 4. Not bad for $85 per, especially for old XMS diehards.

2 sticks of hyperx 3000 in epox 8rda+, the 3129 bios reads when I set it to optimal (which should just use the SPD settings) :

at 100mhz : 5 2 2 2.0
at 133mhz : 6 3 3 2.0
from about 140 to 166mhz: 7 3 3 2.0
above that : 8 4 4 3.0

I'm getting weird results tho, prime95 fails unless I bump the dimm voltage from 2.5 to 2.63v even at optimal setting.
And above 150mhz with tighter than optimal settings I have to bump it up to 2.77v otherwise prime95 fails in a couple of minutes

Hey all,

Would someone happen to know the answer to my question about honoring warranties? I'm interested in getting some memory from NewEgg, or perhaps excaliburpc...but I don't want to buy it if the manufacturer (Kingston) isn't going to honor the warranty....

Thanks,

Ran

Kingston lists Newegg as an authorized dealer. You have nothing to worry about as far as the warranty is concerned....

I've read that the HyperX series is one of the better OC'ers for nforce2 boards. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I read that so as to provide a link Sorry!
