hypocritical christians

how do christians get drunk, get high, have premarital sex, are homosexuals, swear on a regular basis, cheat, etc and still manage to call themselves christians and go to church every sunday?

not saying i disagree with everything listed up there but then again, I DONT' CALL MYSELF CHRISTIAN. i would say more than 50% of the christians i know at my school (a college) do one or more of those things on a regular basis and then they have the nerve to try and convert me? from what i've heard, even if you BELIEVE in God...if you do any of these things on a regular basis with no attempts to change then you haven't really accepted God or the christian way of life...and nope! you ain't going to heaven either.

WTF. somebody explain it to me, preferrably a christian that does one of these things!

Also, getting drunk of high is kind of a shady subject because the Greeks did plenty of drinking. Lots of Greeks were also gay so who the fvck knows.

it is always easier to criticize someone w/ standards that they can't attain to then only setting standards for yourself that you can attain to.

IF you also have standards that you cant attain to, how are you any less hypocritical??

Christians never said they were perfect; only that Jesus was and that as followers of Him, we should try to be so as well. It's the difference between "knowing the path" and "walking the path." Some certainly walk it well and get others to walk with them, but most do not. Yes, we believe that we are forgiven if we ask for it, but we are also told to repent or hold up our end of the bargain. The Greek translation of "repent" is literally to turn around.

Edit: I think you're right, though. God would rather have lots of non-Christians than half-hearted ones. They won't be going anywhere or converting anyone. Just don't think that ALL Christians are like that as I have seen many who can walk the line in most ways.

Jesus came across the same thing when he was on earth. They were called Pharisees.

They didn't practice what they preached and it turned a lot of people away.

True Christians shouldn't draw someone with other beliefs to them by being able to quote Bible scripture, or being able to tell you every story in the Bible. Someone with different beliefs should be drawn to true Christians by their love, tolerance of other beliefs, and their attitude about life.

Whats so hypocritical about Christians.. you can point out many things about other religions too. I'm Muslim... and I've known Muslims that drink alcohol, smoke, covet other peoples wives. I don't regard them as Muslims no matter what they say to me.

You dont need a wake up call, you KNEW what you were doing in the first place was wrong. Humans are primitive just like the animals in in natures kingdom. We might have superior brain power and a opposable thumb does not make us any different than animals. Religion is just an ADDITION to the whole human race.. man makes life more complicated as it is already. As we fight because of our religion... please... why bother, live your life... don't worry about others and their "beliefs" do whats right for you. You wont be judged on how you THINK about others, but how THINK about your life.

Most christians do these things on a regular basis, especially swearing or drinking, that doens't seem to me like they are sorry. For some reason, I get the feeling that somehow they have made it ok in their minds??? But I guess reading some of the responses in this thread, it IS ok.

I dont' really get the argument that I'm being a hypocrite myself?? I'm not saying that just because you have high standards and don't follow them that you are a hypocrite but the people who don't even TRY to follow them ARE hypocrites. for example, if i hold a standard of not drinking..but then i slip and DO drink...i would feel remorse and attempt to not do it again..not go drinking every weekend with my friends <-- that my friend, is a hypocrite.

Also, I will bet you that most of these people you are talking about believe that if they believe in god, they will go to heaven. If they truly knew what it meant to be a Christian I don't think they would call themselves that. It is basically the sad case of parents making their kids go to Church but never actually teach them what it actually means, because churches today don't teach about what it means to be a Christian, they teach the basic stories in the Bible and leave it at that. In my view, the only people who truly know what it is to be Christian, are people who are not Christian. The people who have researched the Bible and it's origins to no ends, are the ones who know the bvllshit behind it.

I'm not bashing christianity, and as another post said, i should probably refer it to religious hypocrites instead of singling out christians but those are the ones i run into the most. but my point is i'm bashing the people who call themselves christians and do these things without any attempt to better themselves.

Apparently I don't have the faintest concept of what it is to be Christian (which is probably true since I've never been a christian or claimed to be one) and you refuse to explain it to me. Thanks for contributing NOTHING to this thread.

Good point. Denominations have split the message. All too often "the church" means dealing with the people in a building when it really means dealing with everyone outside of the building.
