he hadn't invented porn yet.

to impregnate his brother's wife. because he refused, God killed him.

to be a Christian is an admission that you are not perfect. That you need to be redeemed. Redemption was bought by the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross for all peoples. See John 3:16. So yes, you do commit sins, be they any of the afore mentioned. But if you repent, and ask for forgiveness, then you shall receive it. That doesn't mean you should go right back and do it again, because your really didn't repent. Remember the parable of the prodigal son? He was redeemed by his father after all the bad things he did. That's what love is, and the love of God sees and remembers no sin if you repent and follow Jesus. Quite simple, in fact so simple and so unbelievable that people balk at this premise.

If you read the bible, Jesus spent most of his ministry on earth hanging around the rejects, the sinners and the people you and I would probably look away from on the street and shun. Aren't those the very ones you are mentioning as undeserving? Think about it.

God ordered Onan to wed and inpregnate a woman but he basically pulled out before he dumped his load inside the girl. A form of birth control. This is where it comes from that it is a sin to use birth control. The passages are found in Genesis 38:6-9

One passage, in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament), describes the death of Onan. It was a widespread belief that Onan was killed by God because he masturbated. This event was the source of the term "Onanism" -- once used as a synonym for masturbation. But further analysis indicates that he was murdered for the "crime" of using a primitive method of birth control to avoid conceiving a child. The Christian churches have now generally accepted the latter interpretation of this passage.

All churches? Have you been to every one of them and observed? Why generalize so much?

He was killed because he didn't do as God commanded, not because he masturbated
What's funny is that people twist the Bible so much (myself included at times) to prove what they want to prove - theologically correct or not.

Exactly.

The whole point about the story of Onan (and subsequently, Onanism) was misconstrued. Masturbation, in itself, isn't inherently sinful. What Onan did wasn't masturbation, per se, it was actually just a method of "pulling out"; he did this out of selfish motivation (knowing the child borne would not be his), and not out of respect for God's command.

Then Judah said to Onan, "Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother." 9 But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother. 10 What he did was wicked in the LORD's sight; so he put him to death also.

However, there are passages that would point to some sort of sinfulness... "Therefore, honor God with your body" (1 Cor. 6:20), "...that each of you should learn to control his body in a way that is holy and honorable." (1 Thess. 4:4) When dealing with pornography or 'lustful thoughts' about women, the issue is fairly clear - that line of thought is wrong, from a Christian perspective. As to masturbation, the compromise I came to in my Christian days was that if masturbation was an issue that caused enough guilt to compromise my "walk with god", then I should attempt to curtail it.

here is what my Bible says on this passage

Ge:38:8: And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
Ge:38:9: And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

he was told to marry her

I have sat in on Methodist, Protestant, Church of Christ, Baptist, Catholic, and Christ United services. Multiple times for each, and I have never heard one sermon about what it really takes to get into heaven. Most services I have been too follow the same structure. A few hymns, the meat of the sermon, pass the money bin, some more hymns on the way out. Did anyone learn anything other than a moral lesson? Nope.

If you're presented with a sermon, and you're not learning, then you're not listening. You don't go to church to find out how to get into heaven. You accept Christ as your personal lord and savior and you're in. When you go to church, you learn about the faith and how to better "walk the walk."

That's like Christ's coming to earth. He didn't come for the Christians, He came for the sinners. Once you're saved, it's time to move past that point and learn how to better your Christian walk.

One of the things I most understand is that you can't judge someone until you've walked in their shoes
I dissagree, even if you did walk in their shoes you would still be an impartial judge because of your imperfections. Christ was the only perfect being on earth thus making him the only possible judge. As for the hypocricy issue, the standards required to live in the presence of God are such that none could attain them with out the repentance and use of the atonement of Jesus Christ.

If you choose to veiw that as hypocricy than that is exactly what it is, although I choose to view it as imperfection.

Basically, you are telling me that just because you have accepted this Jesus person into your life, you are can still do the same things without any recourse. Sounds more like an excuse to me.

If anyone tells you that, they're lying.

I have so much trouble understanding the Bible -- mainly because of the weird styled English they used. The first part does seem to say "Go to your brother's wife and marry her". But what does "raise up seed to thy brother" mean? Does it mean give your child to your brother?

But if he marries his brother's wife, why should he give his child to his "now-unmarried" brother? Or does "marry her" basically mean to have sex with her (i.e. act like you are married).

And isn't it weird to tell someone to go marry your brother's wife? What's that all about?

And he disobeyed, therefore he was struck down by G-d... seems fairly straightforward, although for those afraid of their own sexuality, nothing is sacred.

In their times, when a brother died or something, his brother was to marry all of the wives of the dead brother and take care of them. And, if you want to know more about the story, read the entire book that the story is in. Nothing like taking out of context to fsck up a bible story

Also, get an updated version of the Bible. New International Version is pretty good about translation. Saying that you don't understand the English is a poor excuse seeing as though it wasn't written in Enlighs and there are better translations than King James Version out there.

Except for the verses that say otherwise...
Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
and
1 Peter 3:21
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ
and
Acts 2:38...41
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost....Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
and
Mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Simply put, it is not enough to just accept Jesus as your savior but every one of these verses says you need to be baptized as well.
