Wow. A question I can really get into. I don't think I would ever condone taking a fall. But if my consience were to change. . .
It would depend on who was pitching when we did not fare well against the other division champs and when we swept the champs. Realize (A) that you will be bringing your three best pitchers and (B) that in a short series, luck matters far more than across 162 games. Anything can happen. (One ball bounces funny on the edge of the infield. Your second baseman misplays a fairly routine grounder at the end of the seventh game of the WS. Your dip$hit lunk slugger forgets to slide at a close play at the plate. Your shortstop just happens to be backing up home plate to save a run the pitcher certainly had coming to him.) So I don't think seven games is enough to prove domination or assured victory. I'd rather do my best to win. But if I don't want to, resting your regulars and playing the callups would probably not arouse too much attention with Czar Bud's office. Saving your top starters to get them set for the playoff rotation would work, too.
