We have a consult with her OB on 7/9 to discuss further.

From reading the doctors website it looks like he does the surgery via robotics. I have concerns around him using surgical mesh. I know there have been a lot of issues and recalls around surgical mesh. One of my good friends had severe problems with surgical mesh that was used to repair his hernia. He was involved in a law suit over this. I know it isn't all bad with surgical mesh but I want to get some more information from him on this.

I had witnessed an actual laprascopic hysterectomy w/ the ovaries intact. just a few cuts (puncture holes in reality) on the abdomen and the pieces were removed via birth canal.

It seems to me that you have a particular viewpoint. My comments about the uterus serving no biologic function in post-menopausal women is not off the cuff. The biologic function of the uterus is to provide nourishment for a growing fetus. If you know otherwise, please educate me on the biologic function of the uterus in a post-menopausal woman.

Instead, you have made remarks that place into question my compassion for the health and safety of individuals under my care. I don't disagree with the statement that physicians in general can do much, much better with regards to this. I think the biggest disconnect is in communication and not lack of compassion, however.

Just got done with the consult with the doctor.

We are moving ahead with the procedure. No incisions are necessary since he says everything can be done through the Vagina, since we are just removing the Uterus. Recovery should be fairly quick with only a single night spent in the hospital. No heavy lifting for several weeks afterwards which isn't a issue with my wife's back issues. When he is doing the work he will also tighten up the Vagina, he asked us if we wanted the wife's Vagina to be like it was 18 or 20 again. We both said 18 of course. No intercourse for 6-weeks afterwards which is fine because of the prolapse we haven't been having intercourse anyway. Seems fairly straight forward and the surgeon is very experienced.

Yeah he is old and sometimes his beside manner is lacking. We had him for delivery of both of our children and he is good at what he does. We where impressed today that he actually sat down with us and spent a good 15-20mins answering all of or questions and listening to us. He was more than willing to discuss all the aspects of the surgery and go over any concerns we had. He can also go from very serious to all of a sudden he starts cracking jokes. I think overall we have made a good choice.

The surgery happened last Tuesday and went just fine.

The wife is recovering ok so far. She still has some fair amount of pain in her pelvic area but each day the pain gets better. Has her first follow-up next week. So hopefully things keep moving along well.
