One way I can tell you on how to bust it is, boot linux and run xscreensaver in cycle mode. When one of the several screensavers tries to set unsupported video mode, your monitor is f**ked up. From that point onwards, when your monitor would simply flash the desktop and go blank everytime you turn on your monitor. I returned mine and settled for a CRT. Good luck.

The auto adjust button should have taken care of this. Something's wrong with your monitor, not the design.

Well, I am gonna try to return it to Outpost.com. They are not picking up the phone saying its afterhours. Are they open tomorrow?

So this is what happened. I am originally from Georgia, currently visiting my parents in Portland, OR for couple days. I went to Fry's here on thursday, and this monitor was $399.99. That's why I ordered from Outpost.com, and came the one with dead pixel and two round prong power cord that is not compatible with regular outlets (who knows what this is). It was manufactured in 12/2003 also, so I am kinda thinking maybe this was a returned product. who knows. Anyways, I go to Fry's today again, and apparently they are on sale this weekend for $279.00, same price as one on Outpost ( I don't know why anyone there didn't tell me that they'll be on sale this weekend when I was there on thursday asking about the price and why they are $279 online but $399 at the store yada yada). So I just picked up one from there, and this one is perfect with no dead pixels, came with proper power cord, and manufactured in 6/2004.

So I am just gonna try to return the one I got from Outpost. How good are they with returns???

Thanks for the helpful information to my previous post though. Really appreciate it

It's 16ms. No ghosting at all (and I'm picky like that), and I run it at 1280x1024. Only 1 dead subpixel for me, but I use it for gaming so it doesn't really bother me.

What's the probability of two monitors having the same problem and dying the same way .. both within 2 weeks of purchase. also, what good is auto adjust if you can't see anything on the screen (even in winxp or in bios screen). Good luck with yours.
3 year warranty on these will give you some peace of mind though.

Does anyone know exactly what panel this uses? Since it's a Hyundai, it would make sense that it would use the 20ms Hydis panel, but people here are saying it is 16ms. Does that mean it's the 16ms LG panel?
Thanks

according to a Tom's Hardware article, they started using a Samsung panel in December 2003.

There's been another change. Due to financial constraints, the L70S switched to an AU Optronics panel some time in August. In December, the L70S will adopt a Samsung panel.

So I can return the one I ordered from Outpost.com online at the Fry's retail location? According to the people there, they made it pretty clear to me that they were two different companies and sounded like they didn't know anything about each other's business....

I'm not home so I can't give you exact numbers, but I know I turned the brightness down quite a bit...it was defaulted to something like 80 or 90, and I put it down to 70...it could probably stand to go down a little more yet. Contrast I lowered about 5 points from where it was. I set refresh rate to the recommended 60 Hz.

It is a tad bright by default. I just played with the settings on it.

I actually think it looks better now then when I first got it. I had a problem initially where to bold II side by side would blur, but it seems that that problem has gone away.

Thanks for the info about it being a Samsung panel.

I had problems with hot pixels and dead pixels with this screen. It would be a really nice screen if it didn't have imperfections on it.

I have their L70A model (which I bought two years ago for $500 or so) and it's a superb monitor. Mine does have VGA and DVI inputs, though. After comparing my Hyundai with Planar, Viewsonic, Samsug, etc, I think only the Samsung has a slightly better picture but maybe not. If they still use the same screen, this is a very good deal.

Thanks for the inputs..... I think I put my brightness down to like 20 though..... maybe its just my eyes.

I am loving this monitor. This is my first LCD monitor, and compared to my 19" CRT i was using sitting next to it, this monitor rocks. I am thinking I should've got two of them....

I have to agree, this was one of the first deals I actually made out OK on...usually I get in so late the product is sold out by the time I order and my order gets cancelled. I can't believe they put the price back up to $399. I also replaced a 19" monitor - which I measured at about 17.5" viewable...so I gave up about a half inch screen size and took about 30 pounds of weight off my desk, and gained about a foot of desk space freed up.

Yes...... the extra space is great!

For clarification, the response time on this is 16ms according to Tom's Hardware.

Your mileage may vary!
I saw this deal and ordered one, when it arrived it has a really bad picture. Returned it.
I hope if you got one, its in better shape than mine was.

You seem to be a fluke becuase the majority of everyone else seems to have had good luck with them

That's an indication of the good quality of these screens. A lot of low quality LCD's are very dark and can't be read from angles. I have my brightness down to around 50.
