I have my eyes on a 1997 SONATA GL, if not I guess I will get the Celica.

I would highly advise you to retain ownership of your scrotum rather than purchasing a Celica. Unless, of course, you're talking about the pre-pussification GT4.

The only car that has a 10-year warranty.
Or needs one.

Hyundai's now are not bad cars, but they were far from good in 1997.

The reason they totalled it? Because the airbag went off and once that happens, it's not worth fixing it.
Yup, was just going to say that there was likely a lot more damage than just the airbag.Originally posted by: Roger

Highly unlikely, an airbag replacement for that vehicle is under $500 including labor.

My girlfriend's friend got in an accident with her 2000 Elantra. The insurance company totalled it and didnt give her enough money to cover the cost of her remaining payments on the car. The reason they totalled it? Because the airbag went off and once that happens, it's not worth fixing it.
I think they are decent cars for being so cheap with such a good warranty, but at the same time, that story makes me wary.

I wouldn't buy a '97. Their new stuff is much better though.
