I've never been able to get past the crappy cars they made in the 90s. I just can't get excited about a Hyundai.

I give it a solid meh.

So most likely you'll be able to get the 06 LX for like 20k

If they put rebates and dealer incentives on it which is what they'll likely do.

hyundai needs some serious marketing boost in order to increase their image or else their cars will never take off. even a top rating in jdpower's 'initial quality' bracket doesnt do it for me.

Their sales have been boosting since they backed their cars with 10yr/100K mils.
Last year they sold 107,189 Sonatas up from 62,385 in 2001.

Looks pretty good. Have been thinking about a newer car for awhile, this just might make it a new car for us. Even the base model is pretty well loaded, and the price is right for all 3 trim levels.

dude, that looks decent.

most importantly, it has an engine that rivals Honda and Toyota 4 banger. 160hp and 30 above mpg, that's a very good engine (well, on paper at least, not sure how smooth and reliable its gonna be)

the price is a bit on the expensive side though no?

Not for the size, standard options & warranty.

I think the price is great, how is it expensive at just about 23k for it loaded to the max?

I rented this for a week on a buisness trip. It was a new Sonata V6. About 5000 miles on it. Ran better than 01 camry (new plus my camry is a 4 cyldine). I would definately consider one of these cars. They only have two current draw backs.

May be tops on initial qualtiy but what about 5 years in the future.

Resale value, if you ever want to re sell one of these its resale value sure does take a hit because of peoples impressions of older models

It's certainly better than anything GM,Ford, Chrysler have to offer in the midsize sedan segment.

It took the Japanese a good few decades to establish a respected track record. Maybe in 5 years, Americans will realize that the Koreans have gotten their sh1t together, and are now better than our domestics. This is assuming, of course, that GM/Chrysler continue to keep their heads in their @sses.

A complementary article about the concurrent missteps of GM. It will be a sad day when GM is inevitably, and deservingly surpassed in sales volume by a foreign automaker.

Likewise, the UAW really need to stop shooting themselves in the feet. A system that was once meant as a shield against economic inequality has now become defiled and abused. Whoever said any job should earn you a "living wage" at the cost of everybody else? How do you teach your children the value of hard work when the butcher at Albertson's or Safeway rakes in $35/hr, and a dockworker in a West Coast dock pockets $110,000 a year (and they still went on strike, demanding more). In contrast, earning my EE degree, by no means a cakewalk, will probably earn me $70,000 after graduation. Also, contrary to popular consensus, union work != high quality. My house in the SF Bay Area, built by K&B, is the prime example of union workers thinking they can get away with sloppy work. All of their shortcomings revealed themselves once my brother and I started renovating the place: misaligned subflooring upstairs, unfastened subfloor anchor screws, incomplete concrete-based backerboard coverage in the bathrooms, and more. They even left some live AC wires inside the walls and forgot to punch out a socket. We discovered it when we were scanning for studs, picked up an AC signal instead, and confirmed with our neighbors who had the same model homes.
</rant>

What a mouthful...

If you build a reliable and safe good quality car and sell it at a good price people will buy it.

from the forbes article: Both companies have a pipeline full of new products. After the Tucson and Sonata, Hyundai will replace its Accent, Elantra and XG 350 sedans, and add a larger Santa Fe, with three rows of seats, and a new minivan.

I've already sent this to my wife and told her that her dreams of getting a Yukon are over if a Santa Fe is coming out with three rows of seats.

The New Accent's web site
Azera's web site ( XG 350 replacement)

There isn't any info on the new Santa Fe's looks yet but some spy shots and an artist rendering of what it's supposed to look like have been seen.

Go Hyundai!

I don't think Sonata's resale value is that terrible. Actually it's better than many cars.

Yes. Sonata's resale value is the lowest after 5 years. But condisider the amount one has to pay innitially.

Sonata LX's depreciation cost after 5 years is $12,220 (TMV $18,955-$6,735 year 5) while Camry LXE's is $13,347 ($24,352-$11,005). Malibu? It's $15,414.

And their resale value will be getting better and better if they keep this pace.

GM has gotten better (much better) over the same time period. chysler as well (mercedes is dragging them down). looks like you're the one with your head in your ass.
