Hyundai L90D+ Good? Bad?

I'm in the market for a good, not too expensive LCD monitor and have been thinking about the Hyundai L90D+. CV has it for 362.99 and NE has it for 369.99 both with free shipping so its a pretty good deal.

Do any of you out there own this monitor? If so what are your personal experiences with it? Does it hold up? The review on tom's hardware gave it their seal of approval for february, but I'm more concerned with it in every day practice. Is it up to par with all of the positive reviews out there?

I'll primarily be using this monitor for games, etc. So the 8ms panel would be perfect!

i bought one ill give you my review

i had 1 blue pixel near bottom right, noticable for first few days then I got over it

The brightness at the bottom of the monitor is higher than at the top, this is noticable if your whole screen is one colour or are comparing things.

No ghosting from what I see
Games look a ton better on this LCD. (than on my 17" CRT)

It really depends on what you are upgrading from to see if its worth the wait and money, and if you are bothered by little things.

My review is similar to bananakingdom in that I too have a stuck pixel, its green and very noticeable no dark colors, but have reconciled myself with it after a month and don't focus on it much at all. Aside from that the panel is amazing. No ghosting, colors are very good, and the DVI looks amazing. It doesn't play videos that good though, well enough but this is truely a LCD for gamers, can't argue the price for an 8ms response time. So overall good LCD for the price, but it might be a gamble getting one with all perfect pixels from what I seen on this forum.

I was pretty fortunate and got one with 0 dead pixels. The colors are crisp and bright. The only thing I didn't care for was the placement of the buttons, they're on the bottom of the screen and a little clumsy, no big deal though.

Personally, I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10, but only because of the placement and clumsiness of the buttons. Other than that, I couldn't be happier with it.

Thanks for your input guys.

The dead pixel kinda worries me since this will be my first LCD purchase, but I guess there's no way around that. Newegg's 8+ dead pixel policy seems high to me especially since Hyundai will replace it if there are 3 or more.

I've also heard that when using it via the DVI input that it can only run at 60hz, is this true? I also heard that you can dl a driver from windows that will allow it to run at 75hz. In my experience 75hz is kinda low, but it might be different between an lcd and crt.

Other than that I think i may go ahead and grab this monitor. Like you all were saying its a great price and I would be using it primarily for gaming, web, etc.

Thanks for your input

i might be one of the few unclucky ones who have brightness differences, it might not be an issue for the whole monitor

Don't worry about the 8 dead pixel thing for Newegg, that's just to encourage you to go to the manufacturer instead. Most manufacturers except Samsung have a better policy than 8 needed for replacement (Samsung is 10 needed for replacement).

Refresh rate for LCD monitors is different than for CRTs. LCDs don't suffer from the flicker problem, because the screen itself is essentially just an electronic shutter -- it stays on until it's told to turn off. CRTs, on the other hand, suffer from refresh rate issues because you're basically looking at a strobe light making new images all the time. For LCDs, the main concern is response time.

Do any of you guys experience motion blur when playing games?

I tried a friends 20.1" Viewsonic 16ms LCD this weekend and the motion blur was very very noticeable to me coming from a CRT. It has almost turned me off from buying an LCD especially when I could save alot when buying a good viewsonic crt for $200 instead of $370.

i have recieves a second one, and i have to say and i dont reccommend this monitor

it seems the brightness problem is probably on everyone of them because i have two different monitors that have it

theres some ugly bleeding at the bottom, and for one of my monitors the vertical viewing angles are horrible, i cant see the top of the screen well unless i am really high on my chair

im sorry to say this but stay away from the monitor, i want to return mine

Wow, that really sucks bananakingdom. Hope you can return one or both of those panels.

I'm really surprised that you would feel so poorly especially after tomshardware gave the L90D+ its best of february award.

I guess it all depends on what your perspecitive is and i'm guessing theirs was speed.

Best of luck to you on the return

yeah i based my purchase on that review too

that review is correct if it didnt have horrible vertical viewing angles (if you were to lean back on your chair you see the difference) and bleeding at the bottom, maybe hyundai sent them a special monitor but i dont know.
the next monitor i buy ill have to see it for myself at a store

also another thing i dont like, theres a green tint on dark scenes in movies

I don't experience any of these problems. And my viewing angle is actually quite good, alot better than I've been reading about. Maybe I just got lucky....

No complaints here:

0 dead pixels
no brightness issues
no ghosting
great colors
0 complaints

I can see why Tom's loved this monitor, it was a great purchase as far as I am concerned.

edit: yes button placement sucks.. don't use them often though
