As a network engineer at a managed services company, working after hours is sometimes inevitable. Pleasing the customer comes first.
That doesn't make it any better.
Of course our customers don't give a damn what hours we have to work, why should they care? Sure, we could bring down a file server at 5 or 5:30 PM, and all would be well. Emails were already sent out informing people that they should copy their work if they need it. But no. Their lead decides that 7PM will be more suitable.
I was supposed to be off at 4:30PM. Now my entire night is shot.
I can't stand being exempt.
Edit: Oh, and on top of all that, I'm going to install a fucking Tape Drive. Yep, that's right a tape drive. Why the hell would a network engineer be the one taking down file servers to install a tape drive, you ask? Exactly.
